Hello everyone.

Automatic cars sometimes have slightly more power than manual cars.

As far as I know, at least two software versions are stored in the TDI engine control unit (ECU), specifically for manual and automatic transmissions.
The selection of the active software during operation is done through coding (e.g., 00001 for automatic transmission, 00002 for manual transmission, or similar).

I've already accessed that level using VAGCOM 81b, but I didn't change anything.

Does anyone here happen to know how a manual transmission car behaves when running with automatic transmission software?
Performance, error logs, etc.?
Gruß Ulf

Hello Ulf,

If you change the coding to "automatic" on a manual transmission, you initially disable the clutch switch (which is important for GRA - Gear Recognition Assistant). Furthermore, there will be an error entry indicating a communication fault with the automatic transmission. In some automatic transmissions, the torque curve for maximum torque may also be slightly lower than that of a manual transmission.

While we're on the subject:

Is there a way to modify the shift characteristics?

'Honestly, I'm really annoyed that the transmission thinks it needs to shift into 3rd gear at 80 km/h and 1900 RPM, and then revs the engine excessively. I'm not even giving it full throttle, I just want to accelerate back to 100 km/h... Why isn't it using the available torque?'
