Hello everyone,
I was actually looking for something specific, but I couldn't find any entries that matched what I was looking for.
Has anyone had experience with the tuning camshafts for TDI engines from Schrick or Dbilas? I don't want to waste my money!
Regards

Hi!
To the best of my knowledge, there's not much more to gain from using "aggressive" camshafts in a TDI engine, as the diesel camshafts already have significantly steeper lobe profiles than those of gasoline engines. There might be some potential for improvement in terms of overall compression, but as I said, not a significant amount, and whether such an investment is worthwhile... well, I have other ideas for improving the TDI's performance.

A different camshaft on a TDI engine only makes sense if you've already exhausted all other possibilities (such as injectors, turbocharger, intercooler, and unrestricted intake and exhaust systems).
With a slightly larger stroke, the poorer response of a 'particularly large' turbocharger (even with VTG) can be minimally improved, but as mentioned: it is only truly recommended starting with the GT2052V .

Hello,
"Thanks for the answers. I'm actually in the process of repairing the cylinder head right now, and I'll make some adjustments (I'm aware of the problems that can arise from improper machining). The reason I'm doing this is because I'm simply missing the responsiveness of my old AAZ engine."

The reason is simply that I miss the revving ability of my old AAZ engine...
What kind of engine are you currently using? A larger turbocharger, along with slightly larger injectors and adjusted software, can also make a TDI engine more responsive (at least, that's what happened to mine, making it as lively as a gasoline engine).

... is not possible for me!
It's a G2 with a 1Z engine, AFN-ESD ignition, and an ESP system modified in the style of Bernd Jaeger (using an AAZ engine with 10mm pistons and a 1Z crankshaft).
In addition, use the AAZ turbocharger (similar in size to the one used on the SB engine).
"It might be related to the revving ability, as I'm currently only running 0.7 bar of boost. I haven't installed an intercooler yet, but I'm preparing for it. I already feel like I have around 90 horsepower (which is plenty for a stock AAZ engine), and the fuel consumption is about 6 liters. However, the car isn't being driven aggressively. The torque is brutal from around 1500 RPM, and the acceleration is really good up to 4300 RPM, but then it starts to fall off a bit..."

You really shouldn't drive a diesel engine for more than 4,500 miles without a major overhaul. It's not really good for the engine.

For this, use the AAZ turbocharger (similar in size to the one from the SB engine).
Brutal torque from low RPM, starting around 1500 RPM.
Okay, for my taste, the charger is too small. The original one from the 1Z can already maintain 1.2 bar continuously at the 1.9-liter engine... but also with a lot of exhaust back pressure. Maybe something from an AAT/AEL would work .
Excellent power delivery up to 4300 RPM
With a larger impeller and larger nozzles, the operating speed range can be significantly expanded.
You really shouldn't drive a diesel engine for more than 4,500 miles without an oil change. It's not really good for the engine.
I know - but what can I do that mine is so short ?

Install a longer gearbox? Does the car still have a road-legal status? If not, it doesn't really matter anyway, does it?

Install a longer transmission?
I would like to, and I've even considered it, but it's not so easy with an automatic transmission installed in the longitudinal direction.
Does the car still have a roadworthiness certificate?
on paper - yes
