Post26-04-2006, 11:18    Subject: VAG-COM: Read Login/Immobilizer IDs - How To? Quote

Hello!
Could someone please give me some tips on the following problem? I would like to use VAG-COM to read out my current login code.
Background: I'm replacing the defective instrument cluster in my Octavia I with a used one. I have a 4-digit code for the replacement (is that all that's needed?). But what if something doesn't work when I'm adjusting the new instrument cluster, or if I have to switch back to the old one because something might be wrong with this 'new' one?

Okay, so I need the data from my current, 'old' instrument cluster. Could someone please give me some tips on how to extract this data, or what I need in order to potentially reinstall the old instrument cluster? Is a simple login sufficient? How do I obtain that? Via the WFS ID? Or only through the dealer?
Das mit den Login-Codes ist sehr verwirrend. Einmal genügt der 4-stellige, dann braucht man wieder einen 7-stelligen. Was stimmt nun? FraI have questions about this.

For the new combination lock, I'm using a 4-digit code, nothing more. But I think that's enough for setting it up, right?

What type of WFS (Window Defogger System) does the Octavia I have? It's integrated into the instrument cluster, but which type? Is it WFS I (is that available for the Octavia?), II, or III? It definitely doesn't use CAN (Controller Area Network) technology.
Was genau muß eigentlich bei einem Kombitausch angepaßt werden? Die WFS ans Motor-STG, oder die Schlüssel an die WFS? OdDoes he do both?

Could someone please give me some advice on the steps I need to take in order, so that nothing goes wrong and a major disaster doesn't occur?

Thank you for your help!

Okay, it's an Octavia I, manufactured in 1999, with a 1.6 gasoline engine. The instrument cluster is probably from 1997, but looks identical. Is it possible to increase the mileage reading? Currently, it shows 127,000 km, but the new one only has 96,000 km. Can the mileage be set to the old value (without the help of a specialist), or is it only possible to increase it up to 100 km?

Greetings.

It's impossible; VAG-COM wasn't designed for that, and such a function is unlikely to be available anytime soon.

You can find the key fob for the old AI system on the keychain of the spare key; Skoda even does this for the current Octavia II models.

Your 99 has WFS-II.

Thanks for the information! But I still have a few questions:

Is it true that you can always reattach/reconfigure the 'old' AI without having to recode it, because the 'old' AI still has its own M-STG and keys stored within it?

I have already reviewed the instructions. Unfortunately, I still have some questions.
-) In point 2, the topic of CAN (Controller Area Network) is mentioned in relation to Volkswagen.
-) You need to provide the 14-digit code to the dealer in order to obtain the 7-digit PIN.
-) Keymatching will also only work with 7-digit logins and WSC.

Thank you again.

Greetings.

No.

Regardless, Skoda is the same as VW, and if you don't have a CAN gateway, just omit the relevant sections.

You don't have to, but instead, you can use the 4-digit one.

Okay, now it's clear to me, except for the thing about simply swapping out the AI modules. Someone in another forum claims that's possible. That would also make sense to me, because if you just disconnect the AI, wouldn't the old data remain in it? After all, you're only 'coding' the NEW AI, so the old one would remain untouched, right?

Greetings.

If the WFS consisted "only" of the KI (artificial intelligence), then yes. Unfortunately, the WFS still consists of some other components, and those are being encoded as well.

Hello!
I already understood that icon_rolleyes.gif, namely that everything else is learned by the AI. So, the data from the M-STG and the key should be written to the AI. Is that really all there is? What could possibly be so much more in connection with the WFS? The WFS is located within the AI. And if nothing is changed on the periphery and the old data remains in the old AI, why doesn't it work?

Conclusion:
Richtig? icon_rolleyes.gif

Greetings.

Of course, it's more than that. Conversely, data is also written to the keys or the engine control unit.

96kwtdi wrote:

Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English. I will then provide the translation.

96kwtdi wrote:
According to your statement, you cannot simply revert the old AI and everything will work again:!:icon_question.gif

Correct, but as I clearly stated earlier in response to that question: NO.

96kwtdi wrote:

Without the current login code, which is the same for the engine control unit and the instrument cluster, you won't be able to pair the new instrument cluster. However, as mentioned before, this code is located on the key ring of your Skoda's spare key, so you shouldn't actually have this problem.

Please read the answers that we give you, then you will save yourself and us some questions... icon_twisted.gif

Don't worry, I've read it. It's just difficult to know who to believe when everyone says something different. For simplicity's sake, I wrote that it was my Octavia. In reality, it's a friend's car, so I don't even know if he currently has the 4-digit login. Otherwise, I wouldn't have asked about READING the current login icon_rolleyes.gif. What's also new is that you need the OLD login for the NEW AI (so old login + new login?!?!?). This isn't really stated in the Rosstec manual. It only says that if you don't have a login, you can request one from the dealer, but that one will be 7 digits long.

Greetings.

Although I'm not "everyone," let's just leave it at that... icon_lol.gif

Sorry, my mistake. Since it's a WFS-2 vehicle, you don't need the login of the old AI to adapt the new one; this is only necessary for WFS-3 and WFS-4. However, if you want to reinstall the old AI, you will also need the corresponding login.

96kwtdi wrote:

Okay, I really need to tell him to finally check if the four-digit login is linked to the spare key.

That also means that you can save yourself the trouble of noting down the WFS ID, etc., according to the Rosstec instructions!? This is only necessary to request a 7-digit LOGIN if you don't have a 4-digit one. Is that correct? In summary: it's optimal if you have the 4-digit code from both KIs. If you only have the 4-digit code from the new KI, adjusting it is easy, but reverting to the old KI is only possible through the dealer and then with a requested 7-digit PIN. I think I understand icon_lol.gif. Please confirm briefly.

You only need to copy the old WFS ID if you plan to go to the dealer with the form to obtain the WFS login from them. In other words, you can skip that step.

Okay, thank you. Since I don't yet know if he has the old PIN, I still need to record the ID of the old key, for security reasons, so that we have something to refer to if needed, in case we need to get something from the dealer later. It doesn't seem to make sense to request a 7-digit key for the old key right now, since it's only valid for one day. Let's see, maybe he still has the old 4-digit one.

While the 7-digit login is intended to be valid for only one day, this is not correct in the context of VAG-COM, because with VAG-COM it is valid indefinitely; only the date on which it was accessed needs to be known.

That would be great, of course! But maybe he still has the old 4-digit code; I hope so. Because 'Friendly' certainly won't give it away for free.

Hello everyone!
Short feedback: he still has the old 4-digit PIN icon_biggrin.gif.

Okay, then let's get started this week.

Thanks again for your help!

Greetings.
