On Thursday evening, I noticed that the rear brake rotors on my A4 Avant quattro were glowing red. The brake pads were completely worn out, so I had a job to do on Friday afternoon *grrrrrrr* icon_twisted.gif. I replaced the pads, but the calipers were not seizing (both rear, left and right). Now the question is, where could this be coming from? The car only has 37,000 km, and the front pads are still in great condition!

M.

Hello M,

I had a similar problem with the G4 AHF last year.
The brake pads were corroded underneath the paint.
The brake pads were firmly fixed in the side guides. The calipers themselves were in perfect condition. I also had extremely hot brakes and a squealing noise at the rear, even without pressing the pedal. I removed the rust and paint, and then it worked. Six months later, the pads at the rear were worn down. The original pads are still in place at the front, but new ones are already installed at the rear.
A little crazy - usually it's the other way around!

Best regards,
Jürgen

PS: Due to the heat, the cuffs on the saddles were damaged.
'The rear part has become brittle - VAG actually produces those.'
buy it as a spare part!

Hello M,
I once had a Golf 2 16V with rear wipers, and I only noticed something was wrong when one wheel was warm and the other was cold. The shaft for the eccentric mechanism was rusted solid in my case. I then disassembled the unit and made the eccentric shaft functional again. The amount of work involved in disassembling it was actually quite limited; it takes about an hour, but you have to be very careful and handle the seal gently.

Best regards, Thomas.
