Hello.

'Now that my engine control unit (ECU) has finally been replaced (the power stage for the turbocharger pressure regulation had burned out), I'm experiencing the following problem:'

Okay, so initially everything went well, the engine is running again, and it's pulling well, etc.
(The old control unit had a faulty power amplifier for the VTG control system).
Ich dann abends schön das Auto abgestellt und wollte endlich mal wieder am nächsten Tag mit meinem Auto zur Arbeit fahren. Uand what happened.
The car, nicknamed 'Turbo,' made noises like a fire engine siren, and then it stopped working.
I drove to work in the other car and I thought there might be a leak somewhere in the air intake system.
Okay, so I went home in the evening and quickly checked the car, but I didn't find anything.
Okay, let's remove the intake manifold and check the shaft and impellers on the compressor side.
Inspected, everything is okay, the game runs smoothly, no issues.
I reassembled the car, and guess what? The car is running great again, with no problems.
Today, the same thing happened again. I was trying to get it moving, but the car wouldn't accelerate and was making a terrible noise. I thought maybe there was something wrong with the VTG adjustment.
'But it seems to be working smoothly. I can definitely observe its movement, and I can also run tests with VAG-COM, and everything seems to be working fine.'
The next possibility I'm considering is the boost pressure sensor. However, if that's the issue, I should see an error in VAG-COM, or a difference in the pressure readings between VAG-COM and the mechanical boost gauge I've connected. But there's no discrepancy, although the boost pressure isn't building up, except for about 0.1 bar.
Well, maybe someone here knows something about it, or has encountered this problem before.
I also replaced the N75 valve as part of the troubleshooting process for the control unit problem.
So, it's also brand new. Below are the details about my vehicle.
The turbocharger has been installed in the vehicle for approximately 5,000 to 10,000 miles, and it was new and freshly balanced.

I've attached two more videos that are supposed to reproduce the whistling sound.
Can it be played with RealPlayer? I don't think it works with Media Player.

Vehicle:

Base 1.9 TDI PD ARL.
Now:
Forged pistons, 2.1 liter displacement.
CRMB Connecting Rod.
other warehouses.
other HP timing belt.
extended intake ports
600 series PDE documents.
GT 20/22 Hybrid with approximately 1.9 bar of boost pressure.

I hope someone can give me some advice.

I once had a similar symptom in an A4 AFN. It wasn't as loud, but it was also intermittent. The cause was a faulty catalytic converter.

Recently, while troubleshooting an issue on my car, I forgot to tighten the connecting pipe (the one between the exhaust manifold and the EGR valve). It made a very similar noise. It was quiet at idle, but as soon as I increased the engine speed, it started to vibrate and whistle.

I'm not sure if there's enough exhaust gas flowing through to drive the turbocharger.

Hello.

I'll take a look at the exhaust side this weekend.
Maybe a mouse got in there somehow.

I just checked again, and the error is still there.
But occasionally, the whole thing works again.
The engine is running at full power, and the turbo is whistling as it should.
But where does all this come from? Is there anyone here who might be knowledgeable about turbos?
If everything is working correctly, the turbocharger should start building boost even when the engine is idling, around 2000 RPM. That's how it's supposed to work.
But when the problem is present, nothing happens, whether it's at idle when revving the engine or under load while driving. No boost pressure is being generated at all.
The VTG (Vertical Temperature Gradient) bar is always at its maximum reading, as it should be.
'I would initially suspect faulty VTG (Variable Track Gauge) components or something similar, but why does it then work perfectly fine again a moment later? And if they were stuck, the control rod wouldn't be moving to its full travel.'

I would really appreciate some more hints.

Best regards,

vanblom

Hello.

I just checked the wave again, and it's now flat.
That means significant turbocharger damage.
Can anyone happen to have a Garret GT 20/22 hybrid turbocharger for sale?

Best regards,

vanblom
