1.9 TDI (1Z)

Hello everyone,

"The thick rubber hose on the intake manifold (before the EGR valve) has burst, and the engine cover is full of oil. From this, I suspect that there's oil in the turbocharger air intake. Is this normal? If not, where could it be coming from?"

The car is currently emitting a lot of smoke, and in my opinion, it's not delivering its full power. This could also be because I bought a motorcycle with a 98 horsepower engine, which naturally has completely different acceleration characteristics icon_wink.gif.

I would say it's coming from the engine. icon_wink.gif

Perhaps you should have bought one with 27 horsepower instead, because the difference isn't that significant then.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

icon_rolleyes.gif Thank you!

It's definitely not normal, right?

I already figured that out myself, but searching for terms like "turbo," "turbocharger," or "oil" wouldn't be very helpful.

Search for 'crankcase ventilation' icon_wink.gif. It is normal to have a slight oil mist in the intake system icon_exclaim.gif.

I would quickly replace the intercooler hose! Otherwise, your turbo will constantly spin faster to build up the pressure it's losing due to the crack... The fact that it's producing soot is also normal, as there isn't enough air getting through.

It's perfectly normal for him to see black smoke coming from the defective hose. The mass airflow sensor measures the air *before* the turbo – that is, the air entering the turbo, not the air actually consumed by the engine. However, the engine control unit regulates the fuel injection based on the measured amount of air. If half of the air being drawn in (and measured) escapes through the hole instead of properly entering the engine, then logically, far too little air reaches the engine to completely burn the injected diesel fuel. The consequence: it will get dark behind you.
