I've already used the search function, but I still want to start a new thread to discuss this topic and gather experiences.

Two weeks ago, I replaced the exhaust system on my Ibiza 6k, which has an 81kw engine with an AFN motor. The car has 301,000 km on the odometer. I couldn't resist starting the engine without the exhaust. The engine itself wasn't very loud, but the turbo whistle was very, very noticeable!

Since then, I've been paying more attention to the noise, and I've noticed that the turbocharger is very clearly audible in the lower RPM range! When the engine is cold, it's almost louder than the engine itself! I'm sure it wasn't this noticeable before, but I don't know if it's related to the new exhaust system. Since then, the vehicle has been performing much better!

Should I be worried now and expect a bearing failure in the near future? What signs were there beforehand that indicated such damage?

I have a wheel loader in stock, so an undetected damage would be doubly frustrating! I'll check the shaft for play tomorrow! There is no significant oil consumption, and the turbo boost and power are fully functional.

So, should I follow the advice 'Never touch a running system' or should I swap it out just to be safe?

Best, Boro.

What new things have you done?

flex pipe, catalytic converter, everything?

Perhaps the cat had become a little bit deaf.

Because the exhaust gases can now flow more easily through the pipes, you can also hear the turbocharger more clearly.

Do you still have the Flexroh?
Can I have the welded support (i.e., those two arms)?

... there was another T.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

No exhaust pipe after the catalytic converter!!! This one is still in very good condition and has very few signs of rust!

Hi,

As long as the oil consumption is within the acceptable range, it's best not to do anything. If the turbocharger's bearings are worn out, the oil consumption will also increase significantly.

Best regards, Rainer.
