Hello.
Last winter, I already experienced the problem of the engine running on only 3 cylinders for 1 to 2 seconds during cold starts. Now, I want to get my car ready for winter again.
Today, I measured the resistance of the glow plugs against ground, and the readings were in the megaohm range. Also, when I connect the positive terminal to the glow plug through an ammeter, no current flows. And is it really possible that all 4 glow plugs are defective?
Could you recommend a good dealer in Munich? I just checked the ATU website, and it looks like one piece costs 22 euros. Is that possible?
Is there any problem with unscrewing it? I'm a little worried about things coming loose or breaking.
I am grateful for any advice.
Unfortunately, I haven't made any progress yet because of my battery problem. What do you think of these kinds of offers?

Of course, all four candles could be defective.
22€ is the price of an ATU course. Go to a hardware store; I mean, I paid about 12 euros for the last candles I bought in this area.
If it's not okay, please delete it:
dieselsend.de
It also still has some usable items.
Be careful during disassembly. A slightly warm engine is helpful. It never feels good to do a replacement like this, but if you proceed with caution, you should never have any problems. Make sure to verschandeln it thoroughly beforehand, using compressed air, for example.

Since it's relevant to the topic - I once read something about Beru spark plug grease. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Bye.

Hi,
We've discussed the issue of spark plug grease before... and we've also had problems with installation and removal.
The search function is extremely helpful here.

Hello.
Thanks for the information. I'll install four new BERU spark plugs this weekend. If anyone is interested, I can give a brief update on how it goes. If something goes wrong, there will definitely be a new thread anyway .
Is it possible to remove the candles without having to disassemble anything else? I've already noticed while testing that this is going to be a tricky job.
Best regards. Golf III TDI AHU 402Tkm

I recently replaced all four spark plugs in my car because none of them were working anymore.
I tested it with a certification body.
I bought mine online, they cost about 12 euros each.
It involves a bit of fiddly work, at least it did for me.
The power rail is a bit in the way and not very flexible. You might also need to disconnect a coolant hose. Attention should also be paid to the cable from the needle lift sensor.
And I can only reiterate: proper cleaning is essential!
I actually had a grain of sand stuck between the lens and the body, even after cleaning it. I noticed it just in time, though.
Basically, everything can be screwed in and out without much effort.
Do not overtighten the candles (15 Nm).
Secure the power rail firmly until it clicks into place.
Good luck! Golf 3 Variant, '97, ALE, 203.000 km

Hello.
Thank you for the tip.
"Where exactly are the heating element candles for the cooling water located?" Can these be tested in the same way as the glow plugs?
Can the injector leak-off oil line be simply disconnected?
Best regards. Golf III TDI AHU 402Tkm

Since you haven't provided any information about the vehicle/engine, I'm guessing it's located in the water jacket at the rear end of the cylinder head.

Sure, you can.
Quote: | | Can the injector return oil line be simply disconnected? |
Sure, you can, but make sure no dirt gets in. It's best to replace leaky pipes at the same time. 3B5 AJM

Is your ammeter working properly??? I find it strange that all the glow plugs aren't drawing any current. What happens if you connect the positive cable directly to the glow plug, bypassing the ammeter? There should be sparks if the ignition system is working correctly.

Hi.
Why should it be so strange that they are gone?
My Golf also "ate through" three of them, and my girlfriend's Leon did the same.
The death of the fourth one wouldn't have taken long.
Furthermore, it's generally a good idea to replace all four at once, because they don't typically fail suddenly and are usually all the same age and have been used equally.
Thanks to TDI technology, you can also get very close to the optimal air-fuel mixture – compared to VW swirl chambers or even French swirl injectors (with the R19, you even had to remove the nozzles).

I find it quite strange that all four main characters die almost simultaneously. It's not exactly difficult to test them without an a-meter.
I would definitely replace all the defective parts as well; otherwise, the construction site would never finish.

Make sure to measure beforehand.
I just had it in my mind that it had already been done.
I always measure with an ohmmeter: 0.6 - 0.8 ohms is okay.
When disassembled, the defective ones can also be identified by the burnt-out glow stick.

1) or all 6 . When replacing something on the head unit, it's a good idea to replace all 6 at the same time. Due to thread damage, see 2).
2) Instead of "TDI," specify the number of cylinders. While 4 and 5 cylinders might be correct, a 6-cylinder engine is not necessarily the case. The intake manifold should be removed, which will also require two gaskets. It's also best to replace the fuel injection lines at the same time. "A man just wants to have a good time." Aktuell:

Well, Tom.
I keep forgetting about this VP44 component in the product range of the Volkswagen Group, even though I still haven't decided against getting one, but you've already advised me against it.
I'll just say VP-TDI or 8V-TDI in the future.
