hello,

I wanted to perform a power measurement using VAG-COM and the various programs available for it. I followed the instructions in the help files (acceleration, deceleration, etc.) and saved the log file. Then, I tried to have the programs "Popometer" and "EasyDiag" calculate a power curve, but both programs refused to do so.
The demo version of KPower produced a power curve, which showed 66.4 kW with an assumed weight of 1300 kg. This seems to be within the realm of possibility.

Yesterday, I brought up the "whoopsie" issue, explaining why it wasn't working with the other programs, and he said the sampling rate was far too slow (1.8 seconds).

Now I have several questions:

How can I increase the sampling rate? (My girlfriend's AFN is around 0.8 seconds.)
Can KPower calculate a reasonably accurate power curve with these "miserable" measured values, or what's the deal with those 66 kW?

What is the power output of other standard 1Z engines, as measured by KPower or similar devices?

Sure, no problem.
alex

Hi Alex,

You won't get your 1Z engine control unit to read faster than 1 measurement pair per second (2 measurement blocks), that's the usual value with a VAG-COM professional system. So, it's normal, the control unit is simply too slow.

Let's put it this way: KPower involves a significant amount of brainpower to extract meaningful information from such measurements. As you can see, it even works quite well with a single zone. Therefore, it's already an advantage if you purchase a diagnostic system from this shop, because the full version of KPower is included icon_smile.gif.
Nevertheless, one should not overestimate the results when dealing with such slow control systems.

It can also be useful, especially for engines with slow ECUs and high maximum torque (i.e., not a standard 1Z, such as an AFN with Stage 1 tuning), to perform a separate measurement in 4th or 5th gear specifically for maximum torque around 2000 rpm, focusing only on the relevant RPM range.
Because in 3rd gear, the engine speed increases so rapidly at 2000 rpm that the control processes and measured values struggle to keep up, resulting in an underestimation of the maximum torque.

Best regards, Rainer.
