Hello,
I'm from Dresden and I'd like to have the fuel injectors replaced on my Golf IV TDI 81kw, which was manufactured in 01/98, as they now have 220,000 km on them.
Over the years, I've also noticed a slight increase in fuel consumption, especially on the highway, and more soot production. Apparently, according to the forum, it's related to the injectors.
'Now I don't know where I can get them tested or replaced. The friendly mechanic around the corner is probably very expensive (although I haven't asked yet). Surely there must be other options?'
Best regards,
Andre

Hi Andre,
Using this guide , disassemble the part and have it inspected by the Bosch service center.
Have the spray pattern and opening pressure checked, and if you need new ones,
I recommend the shop to you.
Regards...

Morning!
@Andregolf:
My tip: Have new nozzles installed directly into your holders.
I also changed my injectors two weeks ago and was surprised that the fuel consumption dropped from 6.2 l/100 km to 5.6 l/100 km. And in my case, they had only 140,000 km on them, and according to the engine specialist, they were also 'checked' .
It now sounds richer again, which is due to improved atomization.
Since then, I've been of the opinion that, for diesel engines, the 'preventative' replacement of the injectors at a maximum of 150,000 km is just as important as regular oil changes.
Best regards, Christox.

Installation and removal are easy to do yourself, and you can find new ones at Rainer's, as Kuhni already mentioned.

Hmm, the normal opening pressure is usually between 190 and 200 bar, which is the wear limit.
at 170 bar.
The spray pattern probably wasn't very good in that area either.
But I wouldn't hesitate for long when it comes to Rainer's prices in the shop.

Thank you for the quick responses .
Okay, so the installation and removal seem quite straightforward, but I need my car every day.
Can Rainer also change that part when I come to Emskirchen? I'm sometimes in Fürth, so it would be convenient to get it done there at the same time.
Best regards,
Andre
Okay, I just saw that Rainer's new nozzles create more power - I've already driven over 220,000 km. Does that make a difference? I don't want to damage my engine.

Read the shop, you see changes .

But of course, that then requires scheduling an appointment .
Just send him an email or a private message.

I just spoke with a technician from Bosch, and he told me that you shouldn't replace the injector where the needle lift sensor is attached, because doing so could damage it. What exactly is attached to it?
He also quoted me a price of 70 EUR per nozzle, including the replacement, which seems incredibly cheap, doesn't it?

If I don't feel like doing something, or if I think I'm not smart enough to do it, I make up wild stories about how impossible and extremely dangerous the task is.
Furthermore, the Earth is flat.
The "turbocharger specialist" at my VW workshop immediately stopped talking to me when I started explaining something to him about adjusting the variable turbine geometry (VTG).
Let the Bosch guy talk, and let Rainer get to work; my engines are running well.

Yes, I just spoke with another Bosch service department, and they said it was nonsense, as you mentioned. My only problem is that Rainer is located a bit far from Dresden, and I'm not sure when I'll be in the area again.
The nozzles from the Bosch service are the same as the old ones - is it really worth the extra trip to Rainer? -> I just want the best for my car .
Best regards,
Andre

Even a new NHG (new heating generator) can break down even if you don't touch it. Bosch service centers probably want to avoid warranty disputes in such cases. Gruß Christian

I think that too now - it's actually a disgrace - for a Bosch branch that is supposedly specifically trained and equipped for diesel engines...
I sent Rainer an email.
Regarding the question about the performance boost – is it somehow dangerous, or are the 5% gains negligible?

Don't worry about the 5% increase in performance; that's still within the normal production variation!

why 5%?
If I install 216 instead of 205 injectors, that's (216/205)^2 = 11% more.
You have to consider the change in cross-section, not the diameter .
But the AU also doesn't notice the jump from 184 µm to 205 µm, and that difference is larger .

Okay, I got the information about the 5% from here:
Excerpt from Rainer's Shop:
Fuel injectors (4 or 5 pieces) with a 0.216mm hole size, including replacement and adjustment in the injector holder combination. Suitable for all injector holder combinations of the 90/110 HP VP-TDI engines (Audi, Seat, Skoda, and VW). Due to the altered hole size of the injectors, an increase in power of 15% (for 90 HP models with manual transmission) or 5% (for 110 HP models) is achieved.

The 5% applies to standard production quantities for the 110 model. In this case, it really is no more than that.
However, the larger nozzle openings become more noticeable when injecting larger volumes.
Therefore, the conclusion "5% more, even if the vehicle is already chipped," is incorrect.
Best regards, Rainer.
