Hello,

I have another question: Does anyone know if the wheel bearings are still pressed into the bearing housing on a Polo 9N 1.4 TDI manufactured in December 2003? Someone once told me that you no longer need a press to install a wheel bearing into the bearing housing.

Greetings,
Dirk.

I just received the wheel bearing housing and the bearing itself. It actually looks completely different from the one on my old Golf 2. With that one, I also had to replace both sides.
However, it seems like you don't need as much pressure to press the bearing into place as you did with my old Golf. Does anyone really have no experience with installing wheel bearings in the newer models?

Greetings,
Dirk.

Hi!
While replacing the rear brake discs on a 1998 Seat Ibiza, I noticed that...
that there were still two-piece 'roller bearings' installed there.
I'm not entirely sure right now whether the Ibiza was built on the platform of the Golf or the Polo.
However, I've heard before that some Polo models also used one-piece pressed bearings in the rear.
Exactly, VW quality versus a Spanish tin can icon_evil.gif.
(These roller bearings are really not the best when it comes to adjustment/wear.)
But just based on the structure, you should be able to tell if it's a press-fit bearing.
-> Multi-part: fixed with a washer and nut; One-piece: pressed in.

Or am I completely wrong?

Best regards.
Peter.

Hi,

It's the wheel bearing on the front axle. I installed everything last night. It was quite a job. On this Polo, which is only 3 years old (1.4 TDI Highline), all the screws were completely rusted. That's real quality, I have to say.
FertSure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"ig."

This is a common abbreviation for "Instagram" in German.
Then, reassemble everything, making sure to align it with the icon_smile.gif markings you made beforehand. At ATU, they told me I definitely need to adjust the alignment! However, I think that's not necessarily required if you work carefully. You don't adjust the tie rod or the ball joint during this procedure. And when you remove the wheel bearing housing from the shock absorber, you make a icon_sad.gif marking. Although it's almost impossible to misalign anything significantly there. I just made sure to align it exactly with the } marking. Overall, I spent almost 5 hours and a can of rust remover dealing with this stupid bearing. }
I'm already dreading the second page because the binding is broken there.
"On the driver's side, I only replaced the bearing because a hole for the brake caliper mounting bolt was damaged, and the wheel bearing housing had to be replaced. It would have been pointless to reuse the old bearing if I knew that the bearing on the other side was already starting to show signs of wear."
I just don't understand why the durability is so poor. In my Golf 2, the bearings lasted 240,000 km. The Polo now has approximately 50,000 km on the odometer. That's already a weak performance. }

Greetings.

3 years old (1.4 TDI Highline)... literally every screw was rusted... it took almost 5 hours and a can of rust remover.
I'm currently surprised by the poor quality and condition, especially considering the mileage.
It's a little bit, but factual reports are undeniable.
Perhaps you travel frequently on highways, where aggressive salt can leave its mark.
leaves behind.
Assuming that was a 'jack-up' situation, five hours is a very reasonable amount of time.

I'm interested in knowing whether the method of using a cold storage unit to cool a warm enclosure is generally...
It works with all one-piece pressed bearings.

Best regards.
Peter.

Yes, I drive on the highway almost every day to get to work.
Unfortunately, since I don't have a stage, it was a "jack-up" operation icon_smile.gif.
I'm not sure if this works with every single-piece press fit bearing, but a friend gave me the tip that the bearings are no longer pressed in the same way as before. Of course, the bearing didn't fall into the housing icon_smile.gif, and I can't say how much the "cold bearing, warm housing" method helped. But it wasn't excessively difficult. (The tie rod end nut, on the other hand, was a challenge icon_smile.gif). I will definitely do the same thing on the other side.

Greetings.
Dirk.
