Hello.
I retrofitted the glow plug heating system to my ALH engine. Now I have a 120A alternator lying around that I want to install in my car. Currently, I have a 90A alternator installed.
In the MWB 16 diagnostic data from the engine control unit, the alternator load is displayed as a percentage.
1. How is this value calculated?
2. Does the STG (Steuergerät - control unit) automatically recognize that the new alternator (LiMa) has more capabilities, or do I need to reprogram (recode) the STG?
3. The first screw-on fuse on the battery, from the left, is 110A. The car from which I removed the starter/generator had a 120A alternator, and that fuse was 150A. Should I also install the 150A fuse, or should I leave the 110A fuse in place?
Regards,
Paul.

Okay, just think about what the fuse would do if the alternator was delivering its full power of 120 amps with a 110 amp fuse... It would probably cause a spectacular short circuit... greetings. 'That's why I'm asking. Theoretically, I would also have to replace the cable, or is it the same for all models? And whether the alternator ever has to deliver the full 120A is another question...'

I have no idea if the connection is the same. That will probably only be revealed by looking in the parts catalog.
Here's the translation:
"Another question: You retrofitted the glow plug heater to the ALH engine - wasn't that a standard feature? Which vehicle are we talking about? Was it an import from a tropical country?" --------------------------------------------

hello
It's a 1999 Bora with an ALH engine.
It wasn't included because it had an automatic transmission. Automatic vehicles (Golf 4 Bora) never had glow plug preheating. At least, that's the case with VEP models. I'm not sure how it is with Rümpeldüse engines.
'For this, the automatic cars had an exhaust-water heat exchanger that was heated by the exhaust flow from the EGR system. Since I've now converted to a 6-speed transmission and have an exhaust temperature sensor instead of the EGR system, I've retrofitted a GKH (gas recirculation heat exchanger).'
Regards,
Paul.
