'In my A3 (2002), the original instrument cluster (Magneti Marelli M73) was defective (clock, FIS, and supposedly a transponder related to the immobilizer). I managed to find a used instrument cluster with the correct part number at a junkyard. Now my question is: The instrument cluster has been adapted (key, immobilizer, etc.) and everything functions perfectly again, except that the total mileage has always shown 999999 km from the beginning. The daily mileage counter and speedometer are working fine, but the total mileage remains stuck at 999999 km. Is there any OBD assistance available to locate and possibly resolve this issue?'
Best regards,

Hello,
You can read the mileage from the drive CAN bus.
The sending station is the gateway. Therefore, the mileage is generated by the instrument cluster.
If the mileage reading on the CAN bus is correct, then only the display in the instrument cluster is faulty.
Do modern car odometers still have an overflow limit, or does the display stop at 1,000,000 km and freeze at that value?
A tachometer tuner might be able to help, but that's beyond my knowledge.
VAG-Com is ineffective at resetting certain functions on vehicles with higher mileage.
What does VAG-Com say about the mileage when you query the measuring blocks?
If everything doesn't ultimately lead to success, perhaps the AI is actually malfunctioning.
Best regards, Jochen.

Hmm, möglich.. I hope not.
I'm using VAG Com to read the measurement blocks in the instrument cluster, where the mileage is recorded, and it seems to be counting correctly there. However, the mileage display on the instrument cluster remains stuck at 999999. I suspect that there might be a communication issue between the instrument cluster and the display (from the EEPROM to the display), because the measurement block/EEPROM clearly shows that the mileage is being counted correctly. Has anyone else experienced this problem before? Best regards.
