Hello,
After the ABS warning light on my 1994 Passat Variant GT TDI started to illuminate occasionally, I took it to the dealership and had them read the error codes. Diagnosis: The sensor on the front left side was defective, so I had it replaced.
That helped for a few weeks, but then the light went out

.
A few days ago, the ABS warning light started to come on again (at speeds of 20 km/h or higher). So, I went back to the "friendly" mechanic, hoping it was another sensor issue. The subsequent reading, however, revealed:
01276 016
Hydraulic pump ABS-V64.
Signal out of tolerance.
The solution offered by the friendly technician was to replace the hydraulic pump - €1,200 plus additional costs. Installation!
I then tried to do some research online and found many references to corroded 30A fuses (located above the battery in the engine compartment), so it seemed like the most logical thing to do was to replace these inexpensive parts. Unfortunately, without success.
Here's what's making me think: Start the engine, wait for the self-test, start slowly, apply full brakes on gravel/sand, and the ABS reacts as expected – it's working!
AFTER that, the light stays off - until I stop the engine again, restart it, and reach a speed of over 20 km/h

.
Could it be due to old brake fluid? (It's older than two years!)
I would be grateful for any advice on how to proceed.
Regards,
Sebastian.
