Hello,

I'd be interested to know...
whether my mileage is correct.

As far as I understand, one would have to...
'retrieve the mileage data from the two control units.'
It can read ABS and MSG data.

Where exactly?

Hi,

What kind of vehicle do you have? Are you talking about the 2000 Passat?

Hello,

Yes, that's exactly the 2000 Passat.

Regards,
Marcus.

Where? In the EEPROM. icon_wink.gif ABS also works (cumbersomely). MFD from version D also works (if it's a factory device), but it's also a bit cumbersome. icon_wink.gif

'So, it probably won't work with VAG-Com or a VAG Tester, right?'

I do have a navigation system, but it's not the original one that came with the car.

Vag-Com also supports some engine control units. Just give it a try icon_wink.gif.

If it's an EDC15VM, it should theoretically work with VAG-COM, and there's a button for it in the "application scripts" section.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello everyone, and happy Easter!

@ Mullemaus

Oops, I apparently missed this thread - my bad!

I still have a few additional questions:

'So, purchasing a new VAG-COM version might potentially help, is that correct? I could possibly read the MSG number using an old version that I have access to. Is there a list of supported control units? If I have to invest over 200 EUR, it should definitely lead to a clear result and provide certainty.'

'What do you mean by 'somewhat complicated'? Is there a corresponding instruction in the manual? Is this something that a VAG-COM novice can accomplish?'

3. Does anyone know if the 2002 Octavia already had the EDC15 engine control unit (which would increase the chances)?

For those who haven't seen my problem yet, here's the link:
/viewtopic.php?p=107476#107476

Thank you to everyone who can and wants to help.

Best regards, Sven.

Hello Sven01,

As mentioned above, it is possible to determine the mileage of a vehicle from the VAG group.

Apart from the VAG COM solution, which should work for you as well, it's a very complex process and therefore incurs significant costs.

If you haven't bought the car yet, and you're unsure about the mileage, then don't buy it... icon_wink.gif Then you'll have saved money and time.

Now, regarding speedometer calibration... I would say that 98% of all VAG vehicles that have been queried were not properly programmed, and in some cases, even the service intervals were not adjusted.

Aber da waren die Affen (Fahrzeugbesitzer) auch selber Schuld icon_lol.gif Das macht kein Justierer für 50€.... GeIt's awesome...

Long live §22b, and let's end the tachograph requirement icon_rolleyes.gif.

That just shows that quality work always comes at a price, no matter what it is.

Regards,
Heiko.

Hello Schwabe,

Thank you for your contribution.

If you haven't bought the car yet, and you're unsure about the mileage, then don't buy it.....

Too late! But that doesn't mean I won't cancel the purchase if it turns out the device has been tampered with.

I would say that 98% of all VAG vehicles that have been registered were not properly (fully) programmed, and in some cases, even the service information was not updated.

But the monkeys (vehicle owners) were also partly to blame themselves. A mechanic wouldn't do that for 50€. Being cheap is great...

I share that view, which is why I hope to either confirm that the car is clean (which would be great) or find clear evidence of tampering (which would be infuriating).

Long live §22b, and let's end the tachograph requirement.

I don't see it that way; the Netherlands is too close for that.

not even the service is adapted

Can any specific information be read out using VAG-COM?

The VAG COM solution, which should also work for you.

Okay, if you're sure about that, I'll just go ahead and order the whole thing. I think the semi-professional solution will probably be enough; I don't think the car already has a CAN bus, right?

Thanks again, best regards from Sven, who is still a bit uncertain.

Hi Sven01,

"It should" work with VAG COM. However, I've had vehicles (with EDC15VM..ff) that it didn't work on.
"A VAG COM without CAN functionality is sufficient for your vehicle, but my advice is to spend a little more and buy one with CAN. That way, you'll have something that's future-proof."

You can check the service information using VAG COM, but if the service reminder has been reset, that information will be gone.

I understand that Section 22b hasn't completely resolved the issue, but it has definitely made things significantly better.

Here's another tip: to be absolutely sure, visit a speedometer calibrator or chip tuner near you. They'll probably take a quick look.

Regards,
Schwabe.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the information.
I recently purchased the VAG-Com here in the shop, along with the new HEX-CAN interface.

If anyone could tell me where to find the mileage information in the MSG or ABS, I would be very grateful.

Regards,
Marcus.
