OBD Scan Passat 3B: Read Error Codes

Hi.

A friend of mine has a 1998 Passat Variant 3B (in good condition, a new technical inspection is possible with minimal effort) with a 1.8 ADR engine, and she wants to sell it soon. The problem is that the odometer has disappeared in recent months, first partially, and now it's completely gone.

It's difficult to get a fair price for the car without a regular mileage reading. That's why I'm wondering if it's possible to read the mileage from the instrument cluster (IC) using VCDS, which could serve as a reference for potential buyers.

Now, you might say that Rudi recently bought a VCDS device, but I live in East Hesse, and the lady lives in Essen right now, so it's too far to travel just to have it read.

Can anyone provide input on this? If more information is needed, I will try to obtain it.

If the AI system is otherwise functioning and accessible, the kilometer reading can be read as a measurement value. I believe it's rounded to the nearest 10 kilometers.

A VCDS scan also includes the mileage, which is usually displayed near the beginning.

Consider that the missing display of the mileage is a significant defect during the vehicle inspection.

Thank you for this information, but the missing mileage display is irrelevant for the technical inspection (HU), both at TÜV Hessen and at DEKRA; only the speedometer needs to be working.

I once connected the acquaintance with someone from another forum who has VCDS, and it was confirmed that the mileage can be displayed in the module configuration menu.
