Hello everyone!

My Audi (AFN engine) has started consuming oil recently: it's using approximately one liter of engine oil every 1000 km. I'm currently running a mixture of 80% rapeseed oil and 20% diesel in the second tank, and I'm driving exclusively on the highway at around 140 km/h. It only smokes intermittently during acceleration above 2800 rpm.
The oil consumption was approximately 0.1 liters per 1000 km before the intervention.

Currently, I'm using Praktiker 5W-40 oil. Before that, I was using a full synthetic 5W-40, and the car consumed that as well.

I test-drove the car for 500 km using only diesel, and it showed no measurable oil loss.

The injectors are new, it starts on the first turn, and it runs smoothly.
The boost pressure is built up normally, and the turbocharger outlet is oil-free.

Could it be that the piston rings are not sealing completely due to being stuck in the ring grooves?

Should I be concerned and have the pistons inspected?

Best regards, Christox.

Hi,

Could it be that, even so, the piston rings are not completely sealing due to being stuck in the ring grooves?

Not unlikely... however, for a consumption of 1 liter per 1000 kilometers, there should be more sticking than what the oil scraper ring allows.

Is the crankcase ventilation system working correctly? A common source of oil leaks can also be the bearings on the turbocharger.

Best regards, Rainer.

Is the crankcase ventilation system okay? A frequent source of oil leaks can also be the bearings on the turbocharger.

While the KGE has a slightly oily interior, it does not promote the consumption of such high amounts of oil as it currently uses.
The hose directly at the charging port is completely dry, which suggests that the batteries are still sealed.

I just checked the OBD cable and was surprised by the high values for the idle speed control: -2.1; -0.4; -2.2; - Does this mean that the engine needs to reduce the fuel injection amount in all three cylinders? So, does the reference cylinder need significantly more fuel, perhaps due to lower compression?

Can a compression test identify a stuck piston ring, if one is present?

Best regards, Christox.
