Golf 4 won't start? Troubleshooting guide

Hello.

I'm having a problem with my Golf 4 1.4, manufactured in 2000.

When you turn the key the first time, the engine doesn't start at all. There's no cranking, no clicking.

Turned the key once – then turned it again, and the car started.

In recent days, it sometimes takes several attempts.

The same thing happens with both car keys.

No errors stored in the error memory.

Could the relay or the ignition switch be defective?

Based on your description, I suspect a faulty ignition starter switch. It would be best to measure the voltage that arrives at the starter motor, specifically at the THIN wire at the front. There is no relay between the starter contact on the switch and the starter motor itself.
