Hello,

How are things currently with damage to the CR high-pressure pump in the latest 3.0L V6 TDIs?
Is this something that happens rarely, or should you expect it to occur after 150,000 km?

Do camshafts always function correctly, or do valve problems and other issues occasionally arise?

Best regards, Rainer.

The text discusses the newer V6 engine with a roller rocker arm design. Christians suggests that the NW (presumably a specific part or model) for the 3.0 engine is also manufactured using the same method. Perhaps this post can provide some insights into the 3.0 engine.

Unfortunately, I don't have any more information.

Hi,

That's why my question is, I really don't want to ruin a 6-cylinder engine because of loose camshafts on the timing chain side...
Even a high-definition pump that produces foam can quickly become very, very expensive.
Therefore, we would greatly appreciate hearing from people who have been driving these engines for a longer period of time.

The goal is a small upgrade package that allows for an increase in power to approximately 320 horsepower.

Best regards, Rainer.

Take a look at the MT forum in the 4F section. I haven't noticed much there, except for a few instances where things seem to be performing worse than usual.

The 3.0 TDI engines are excellent engines, and so far they haven't had any known issues.
They are approximately 300% better than the old 2.5 models, which weren't even able to properly seal the valve covers.
The chain drive doesn't cause any problems, and I've only experienced one defective CR pump. However, that one didn't tolerate the gasoline icon_lol.gif.
If I had the necessary funds, I would go for the 3.0 TDI.
Given that you can get really good performance out of the engine, especially if 230 horsepower is sufficient for you. icon_twisted.gif

If you're interested, I have 2 SSPs (Service Information) about the 3.0L TDI engine in PDF format.

Yes, I've already driven cars with around 300 horsepower icon_wink.gif. That's quite a bit of power icon_lol.gif.

The only real weakness of the 2.7/3.0 TDIs, especially in the beginning, was the software, but it's probably quite good now. However, the older models were just prone to problems.

Regarding the camshafts, I first came across reports of failing camshafts online at the beginning of this year. The new cylinder heads with roller rocker arms and the redesigned camshaft were introduced, as far as I know, in 2003, which means the damage only occurs after a certain period of operation. During the development of the new engines, the issue may not have been known to Audi yet, and if it wasn't resolved earlier by chance, it could potentially become more noticeable in the next one or two years.

Um, that engine wasn't even available until around 2004. The camshafts are no longer comparable to the old ones.
I just checked the prices, and even the models from 2004 still cost over €25,000.

Are you referring to the 3.0 engine or the BDG/BDH? The NW (Northwest) models of the 2.7 and 3.0 engines already have characteristics similar to the BDG/BDH. Of course, they are not exactly the same because the newer engines, among other things, have a different cylinder spacing. And one of the four camshafts in the 2.7/3.0 engines is made from solid material because it drives the rear-mounted timing belt.

Even though it's not a lot, I have 2 customers who each own a 3.0 TDI. One has 240,000 kilometers on the clock, and the other, with an *** chip, has 143,000 kilometers. Both are running smoothly so far without any problems.

Overall, it seems to me that the 3.0 TDI engines are significantly better than the older 2.5 TDI engines, which were often reported to have engine problems.

The car with the highest mileage listed on Mobile.de was a 3.0 TDI Audi A4 Avant with 380,000 kilometers.
By the way, we're from Austria (even though we're not just driving on Alpine passes icon_wink.gif).
It was the original engine. The only part that was replaced was the transmission, which happened at 320,000 km.
It speaks for itself, doesn't it?

Let's see what the rest can do first.
There are also AFB/AKN engines with 300,000 kilometers on them and with the original camshafts.

I found something related to this topic on MT.
http://www.motor-talk.de/showthread.php?s=&postid=13234357#post13234357

"The issue with the IHU camshafts is known within the VAG group, and the reference number is 2010876/1. The camshaft lobes are not pressed onto the shaft; instead, the shaft is expanded by internal pressure, ensuring that the lobe rings fit tightly and that the recesses for the spark plug screws are present. Apparently, sometimes it's expanded "too much," haha..."

Starting with FGST numbers 8E5A097671 and 4B5N014697, alternative cam profiles are available as a standard option.
