Hello everyone,
Problem:
I installed a remote control for the central locking system in my Audi A3 (year of manufacture 1998) – as mentioned before, it has a transponder with a rolling code. I had new interior key blanks made to fit the old flip-key design.
"They cannot be paired. According to the workshop, they can only be paired once (to a donor vehicle), so not to my system."
Is this statement correct?
Regards

In 98, you have WFS II. WFS II transponders can be programmed onto other vehicles. For FFB systems, it depends on the control unit and the frequency.

Hello Mulle,
I thought WFS2 was a fixed code, but I definitely have changeable code ("W" marked on the original key).
Then I wonder what's going wrong at the workshop, or is it a problem *because* the adjustment is being done online?
Regarding the FFB (presumably a product or feature), it's clear that it works well and is suitable.
Best regards,

WFS I is fixed code, while WFS II uses variable code.
Then I wonder what they are doing wrong in the workshop, or is this a problem BECAUSE the adjustment is made online?
Normally not, but it should work.

Sure, here's the translation:
"Well..."
Then I'll say thank you!
Thankfully, I didn't have to pay anything for the "failure"!
Best regards,

I installed a remote control for the central locking system of a butcher's shop.
Please note: If the 'butcher' is a WFS III, then the transponders will not work; they are 'locked.' WFS II units work in any other WFS II unit. Just for information, so we don't misunderstand each other.

Hello,
Of course, that's also a possibility...
I haven't been able to find any other part numbers for the A3 (folding key head with replaceable code transponder, 4D0837246B, used from 1997-2003).
The donor vehicle was an A3, a front-wheel drive model with 130 horsepower and S-Line trim, manufactured in 2002.
Best regards,

The 02 is definitely a WFS III  . Therefore, the transponder is locked and unusable.  Even the FFB (Front Front Bus) shouldn't fit on the old model. The only solution is a new transponder and a different radio controller.  You can see this with the FFB in the error memory. After the learning process, there should be an error message displayed. }

Morning.
So, everything is clear now. I would just like to thank you for explaining it so thoroughly!
P.S.: Regarding the radio control units: They are compatible and interchangeable, with 2-button versions working with 3-button versions, and they can also be programmed. The only drawback is that the trunk release button doesn't function. Since I didn't receive a complete set (without the pump), I obtained a faulty unit from a local workshop – often, it's the old graphite pump that fails – and transplanted the electronics from my original unit into it.
Regards,
