Hello experts,

My Galaxy (AFN) has been experiencing a loss of power for some time. The injection timing is slightly below the tolerance limit, and the timing belt was replaced at 68,000 km (by the workshop) - but it didn't help. I replaced the fuel filter - still no improvement. The turbocharger's adjustment mechanism was checked (but the workshop didn't seem to know what they were doing).

Test run with Maik's adapter - many thanks to Maik again.

Group 8 measured at full throttle:
Engine speed: 2950 RPM.
Fuel injection amount, driver preference: 44mg/stroke (target: 43-45).
Fuel injection volume, torque limitation: 40.8 mg/rev (target: 40-42).
Fuel injection amount, smoke limit: 26.6 mg/stroke (target: 38.5-44).

In group 10:
Air mass: 555 mg/R (Target: 850-1050!!)

Is that not shortness of breath? So, I bought an air filter, but because I can't quite get the air filter housing cover all the way off, I have two questions to start with:
- Could it be related to the air filter? - It's 30,000 km icon_redface.gif and one year old.
- How do you open the stupid cover on a Galaxy/Sharan?
- Are my thoughts correct, or am I completely wrong?

The measured values for the target/actual boost pressure are in good agreement with the data from Michael II (error database). The air mass values range from 275 (idle) to 670 (full throttle).

Best regards,

Helmut.

Hello,

The air mass may be indicated as being too low due to a faulty mass airflow sensor. In this case, the soot limit intervention system will activate. Defective mass airflow sensors are a common problem. Try borrowing a known working sensor temporarily to test.

Hi.

... you can find more information on Rainer's website in a new article about systematic troubleshooting with VAGCOM.
I would be interested to see the results if you try it.

Before anything else, considering the appropriate boost pressure but insufficient air mass, I would also suspect the mass airflow sensor (MAF).

Hello,

The LMM! Just swirl the thing around in a beaker of alcohol a few times - that's all it takes.

I also managed to get the air filter housing open (with some force). It's a bit warmer now, so the plastic is more pliable; however, it's still impossible to do it without removing the section of the housing where the mass airflow sensor is located. Also, the filter gasket probably glued the housing halves together.

Rainer's article was a good introduction to working with VAGCOM.

I will plan a test run sometime so that I can get 'good' readings.

Best regards,

Helmut.

The article in question is not by me, but by Ulf icon_wink.gif.

Best regards, Rainer.
