Hello, diesel mechanics.
Rumors are circulating online that you are the right person to contact when it comes to TDI problems.
Okay, now let's move on to the topic...
I'm having a problem with an engine from an Audi A6. It's a 2.5 TDI with 132 kW, engine code AKE, manufactured in 1999. I've installed it in a VW T3 along with a Porsche transmission. Now that it's installed, the real problems are starting: the engine won't start.
The WFS is configured correctly, and there are no error messages related to it.
The ESP is getting diesel, but there's no air in the lines.
The only error message/inaccuracy we have is in measurement block 19 of the...
'The engine control unit/diagnostic computer is not receiving an engine speed signal, as stated in the VW manual.'
There must be at least one speed reading above 200 for the...
ESP starts to activate. What's peculiar is that in measurement block 1...
A speed greater than 200 is displayed when the organ is played, but not in measurement block 19.
The speedometer reading is stuck at zero. We've checked the speed sensor on the transmission, and it's working.
Now the question is, where does the speed signal come from in the MWB 19? I don't think it comes from the transmission speed sensor (G28).
I'm a bit lost at the moment, maybe you have an idea?
Thank you in advance.
Hans (Bugbeat)

Hi Hans,
You seem to have quite a significant problem there.
Unfortunately, as far as I know, there's no one here who understands the software processes within the engine control unit in such detail (or perhaps they haven't revealed their expertise yet...?).
So far, this discussion has mainly focused on the "smaller" 1.9-liter engines with the VP 37; the VP 44 for the V6 (as a separate digital system) is not as common.
I'm just speculating, but I could imagine that the engine control unit in the V6 receives speed signals from various sources (besides the crankshaft sensor, perhaps also from the pump or the knock sensor, if the V6 has one), and that one of those signals is not reaching measurement block 19.
If you have the manual, perhaps it provides more specific information somewhere in the possible error messages and troubleshooting instructions? Gruß Ulf

Hi,
I'll be getting some documents for the V6 this weekend. There might be something in there that's of interest to you. I'll let you know. Gruß Bertil

Correct rotation direction on the starter motor? Porsche starter motors come in different rotation directions. I once installed a used 944 starter motor in my 924, and then I was completely stumped when it wouldn't start.

Hello,
The starter motor is located on the engine side of this engine, and therefore...
Directly taken from the donor vehicle...

Hello, was the A6 an automatic transmission vehicle by any chance, and is the Porsche gearbox a manual transmission?
greetings

Hello,
What values are displayed in measurement block 0, field 1, field 7, and field 10?
What are the values for Measurement Block 2, Field 1, and Field 4?
What is the part number of the control unit, and what is the current coding? Tschüss

Weird.
es gibt Unterschiede zwischen Automatikgetriebe und Schaltgetriebe bzgl. G28:
Manual transmission:
G28 Pin 1 Shielding.
Connect pin 2 of connector G28 to pin 110 of connector J248.
Connect pin 3 of connector G28 to pin 102 of connector J248.
Automatic transmission:
G28 Pin 1 Shielding.
Connect pin 2 of connector G28 to pin 102 of connector J248.
Connect pin 3 of connector G28 to pin 111 of connector J248. Tschüss

Hello everyone, happy New Year to you all.
to edazer: It was an automatic car, and the engine came from that car.
However, the recesses on the swing disc are created by the pins.
The sprocket on which the power transmission unit is mounted is replaced.
This measure was necessary to fit the clutch into the smaller Porsche transmission housing. This means we also used the speed sensor from the automatic transmission (for Michael II).
IcI believe, but...
It's probably not the transmission speed sensor, because we've already started other cars with the V6 TDI engine with the transmission speed sensor disconnected, although the engine runs a bit rough and smokes.
'This means that the transmission is not sending a speed signal, but the engine still starts. However, the repair manual states that a speed of at least 200 must be present in diagnostic data block 19, otherwise the ESP will not be activated. From this, I conclude that the speed signal in diagnostic data block 19 is coming from somewhere else.'
Regarding Michael II... I need to check the MWB files 0 and 1 again.
it says, but that might take a few days because my laptop crashed while running the diagnostic program.
I'll let you know as soon as it's working again...
Horido Hans.

Hello fellow diesel mechanics.
Yesterday, I drove the first few meters with my new engine/transmission combination (V6 TDI from an Audi A6 with 180 horsepower and a Porsche G50 transmission), and it was absolutely awesome!!!! Now come the fine-tuning and adjustment work, and still some optimizations. These are tasks that are fun again, unlike the search for any electronic faults...
What happened? It's almost embarrassing, but we had connected the wire labeled '15' from the control unit to the 'X' terminal on the ignition switch, which meant there was no power flowing when the starter was engaged... Oh well, it's running now.
