Hey everyone,
Oil is leaking (a lot) from the seal of the oil pump on my engine, and my 'trusted VAG' mechanic mentioned repair costs of €1100, including a timing belt replacement/oil pump and water pump. Since it's already open... icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif

Okay, here's my question: Has anyone ever replaced the timing belt on an Audi AEL engine? And if so, what tips can you give me?

I've already replaced several timing belts, but not on a diesel engine yet. The workshop would be willing to adjust the timing belt tension and fuel injection timing.

Alex.

hello Felix,
The disassembly of the entire front assembly is a complex process. It involves removing components such as the bumper and radiator.
Climate condenser. You can detach these parts (both coolers) on one side and then swing them away. There are even special brackets for this purpose.
When you replace the timing belt or the sealing ring, you only need to mark the camshaft pulley, not remove it! Of course, the crankshaft is set to its top dead center (TDC) position, and the vibration damper is also marked.
To remove the vibration damper, you need the VW tensioner holder. Then, with the tensioner roller relaxed, remove the old belt. icon_idea.gif It is better to first loosen the Allen screws for the small timing belt drive pulley and carefully separate this (inner) pulley from the vibration damper by gently tapping it with a hammer, while leaving the screws partially loosened.
The belt tension is adjusted using the (automatic) tensioner pulley. Loosely attach it and then rotate it until the indicators align. Then tighten it securely. Only after that should you install the vibration damper.
To be on the safe side, turn the engine over manually once before starting it.
If you leave the camshaft gear bolted in place, you don't need to adjust anything at all!
If everything goes wrong: I still have a brand new one! And also a used engine lying around...

Thank you very much for your message. icon_wink.gif

Could you possibly send me a sketch or drawing of the holder for the cows so that I can make it in advance?

Alex.
