Vag-Com Diesel enthusiasts... that's where VCDS comes in .
I didn't even know what he wanted when an American asked me if I had "wäg kom."
Americans tend to shorten words and then pronounce the shortened version - for example, "Jeep."
It's good that it doesn't work well with VCDS.

Hello,
VCDS stands for Vag- Com Diagnostic System. The reason for the short-term renaming is a legal issue regarding the registration of VAG-COM as a trademark in the United States.
Apart from the unpronounceable abbreviation, nothing else changes.
Best regards, Rainer.

@ Martin et al.: "GP," meaning "general purpose," doesn't seem to be the origin of the word. It's quite impressive, that "www."

@ haithamina
I never said "General Purpose" , but I meant pronouncing "GP" (whether it's a Ford code or something else).
And the Wikipedia article itself states that it is _unclear_.
No matter what, apparently people over there express everything openly... although they will likely have problems with "Wie Zieh De Es" .

No, not everything is pronounced literally, especially when it's obviously not possible. For example, 'IBM' is always pronounced 'Ei Bie Emm'.
In American English, VCDS is said: Vie Zie Die Ess. It's really not a problem, and definitely better than paying lawyers for the next 5 years.
Best,
-Uwe-
