GRA Golf 3 Retrofit Kit

Hello,

I want to retrofit a glow plug relay (GRA) to my Golf 3 (engine code: ALE). VW offers a retrofit kit (part number: 1H0 998 527). However, according to VW, this kit is only compatible with engines 1Z, AHU, and AFN and is not supposed to work with the ALE engine. I do have the four-pin connector (in the footwell) for connecting to the GRA.
Can you confirm VW's statement that it doesn't work?

Yeah, yeah, VW says a lot.

They also don't know that the AHU Kat fits the 1Z model, and it would be better to install it if the Kat and flexible duct need to be replaced.

They're looking at the computer and not reading the instructions, so there's no solution for that.

Based on the analysis, very little is actually integrated into the ALE system because the mapping doesn't work correctly for many components.

You must have the 028 906 021 HD engine control unit.

I have a 1Z engine and this control unit lying around. When I finally have some time, I'll install it, and the 1Z engine will run with it, along with the GRA (presumably referring to a specific component or system).

I just checked, and mine is 028 906 021 HD. So, I assume that it should fit. I'll probably get the original retrofit kit, as it looks better aesthetically .

No, I misspelled it.

The ALE has the 021 HD. I am not aware of any reason why the HD should not have a GRA.

I have a 1Z engine with part numbers 021 AF and GRA, and I also have a head (cylinder head) in stock.

But unfortunately, I don't have time to try it out (to see if it also works with GRA).

You can install a button yourself (see my budget:GRA) or have the original lever installed - this one, plus VAT.

This is the luxury version, because the switch is unnecessary!

When you bridge the GRA (Ground Relay), it is always on (this is, for example, the standard configuration in Opel cars), and you only need one button... and some wires.

Since I built the part myself on Saturdays, I used wire clips instead of the original connector. However, it only costs 3-4 EUR.

This thing worked so well on my Golf! I almost ran into a city bus out of sheer joy - but that's because it was constantly .
