The blinker relay (in the hazard warning switch) is clicking intermittently without the turn signal being activated.
-> The turn signal switch/turn signal lever on the steering wheel is electrically defective.

Vehicles
. VW Passat 3B / 3BG
. VW Golf IV
. VW Bora
. SEAT Leon 1M
. SEAT Toledo 1M
. Audi A3 8L
. Skoda Octavia 1
. Skoda Superb 1
Error
. The turn signal relay is clicking sporadically or continuously, even though the turn signals are not flashing.
. When the turn signal is activated, everything is normal. This also applies to the hazard warning system.
. Wiggling the steering wheel lever can potentially worsen or temporarily improve the symptom.
Cause
. Wear on the contacts in the steering column switch, the mixture of copper abrasion and contact grease creates a conductive mass, which leads to leakage currents.
Solution
. A temporary fix is to spray WD40 into the steering column switch, but I advise against this, as there is a 50/50 chance that the lever will "stick" afterwards and then blink continuously.
. Alternative: Remove and completely disassemble the steering wheel switch, verschandeln the inside, and apply new contact grease. Useless, if wear and tear has already occurred, as demonstrated in the equipment, where the entire track has been worn down (operating hours of the shown lever: 160tkm long distance).
. Permanent: Steering wheel switch (with GRA ~ 57;) replacement)
New Product Purchase Information
. Generally, read the part number first and then order it, as there are different model variants with different connectors. This is especially true for the Passat 3B/G, where the cable connections were changed, especially within the production years.
Attachment: Worn Contacts.
