Hello,
For about a year, I've been experiencing a problem with my Audi Q7 where the car battery occasionally discharges unexpectedly.
Due to the age of the battery, it was replaced with a new Varta Silver Dynamic 110Ah battery and coded using VCDS, but this did not resolve the issue. The battery continued to discharge progressively weaker within a week of operation. A measurement of the quiescent current using a calibrated multimeter showed a consumption of 20mA, which is likely within the acceptable range for this vehicle.
When testing the new battery with a battery tester (cold cranking amps), I found that the battery was defective when measured at the jump start terminals, but the battery was fine when measured directly at the battery terminals. Checking the connections and wiring yielded no results.
In measurement block 006, the battery charge level (after being charged to 100%) decreases by 10% per day under normal vehicle usage. If the auxiliary heater is activated for 0.5 hours in the morning for 3 days, the vehicle will not start on the 3rd day.
I had also noticed that when the doors were open, the vehicle would not start after about 3 hours (without the ignition on and without the radio playing).
In measurement block 004, the "Battery Charge Level" value rapidly fluctuates between 1.4 and 10A while the engine is running, especially when consumers are turned on. The value "0Ah charge" is always displayed, even when the engine is running.
Unfortunately, I can't properly interpret the parameters in the measurement blocks, and I can't find any explanations for them in VCDS either.
I have attached a file containing the Autoscan data from the vehicle. This includes measurement blocks from control unit 61, both with the engine off and with the engine running.
I assume that someone familiar with the Audi BEM (Body Electrical Module) will come forward and offer me advice on how to fix my problem.
Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Hi Kiesi! icon_wink.gif

How long ago was the battery replaced, and was it actually a new battery?
I've reviewed your car scan, including the battery data, and I find the charging current of 3.4A at 14.1V at the battery to be implausible. If the battery is discharged, it should require significantly more current, at least 10-15A, for a short period (e.g., 1 minute) after starting. This suggests a defective or sulfated battery to me.

Try charging the battery fully with a proper charger, preferably for several days.
Then you need a DC clamp-on ammeter to verify the values displayed in VCDS in the real world.

But leaving the door open for 3 hours and then having the battery completely drained is definitely not normal. It would require approximately 30 amps to drain a 110Ah battery within that time.

Regarding the battery test: Of course, checking the cold start current requires the lowest possible transition resistance between the testing device and the battery! (RTFM icon_wink.gif). An additional 5 mOhm of lead wire resistance, which is not included in the measurement, can significantly affect the results, which is obvious.

My suggestion is this: First, fully charge the battery (or have it charged). If possible, determine the battery's capacity by discharging it. And only if it's truly not a battery issue, then start looking for the problem elsewhere in the vehicle.

Best regards from Munich!

...that actually matches the error description. Why shouldn't a relatively new battery sulfate?
If a consumer occasionally drains the battery completely?

The behavior with the doors open also speaks for itself.

A software update might help before you start looking for a bug.

Tipp: Uni-T UT210E. Handlich und sauber aufgebaut. Wird bei diversen Internetanbietern für 37..45€ incl. Pooffered by rto.
The only "drawback" is that the device defaults to AC measurement and needs to be configured for DC voltage measurement.
or switched to DC current measurement (1 blue button).
