Hello,
A good friend recently bought a new Polo (manufactured in 10/03) and asked me if it would be as easy to retrofit the GRA (glow plug relay) as it was on my 1Z TDI.
Using VAG-COM and the known code, I was already able to activate the control unit. So, the GRA (wastegate actuator) should actually be working, right?
However, unfortunately, the necessary wiring is not pre-installed up to the steering column switch .
Does anyone know if there's still a place to find an extension cable that needs to be connected up to the steering wheel?
Or do you have to run the necessary cables from the engine control unit to the switch?
Does anyone happen to have a wiring diagram that includes the GRA (Ground Reference Amplifier)? Gruss Oliver.

It's possible to retrofit it; I've done it myself before.
It's a bit of a hassle, as the entire dashboard needs to be removed.
'Give me your email address, and I'll send you the circuit diagram.'
Best regards,

It needs to be removed because a cable runs forward to the front panel.
I haven't received a private message from you.

Although this is an old post, I want to set things straight.
When retrofitting a GRA (likely referring to a gauge or instrument cluster) in a Polo 9N or Skoda Fabia (Seat Ibiza?), the entire dashboard absolutely does not need to be removed from the car. Ckone, if you did that, I feel sorry for you.
While an extra cable needs to be installed (a fail-safe signal from the GRA to the MSG), it can be done quite easily with relatively little effort.
And here's how it works:
Simply detach the control unit for the central electrical system from under the relay carrier, then pull the relay carrier downwards from its bracket, and possibly unscrew the fuse holder to have a little more space. Then, if you look up towards the dashboard, you can see several connectors in a connector block on the firewall. Of particular interest is the white connector (11 pins). After unlocking the connector block (push the metal rail to the left), simply pull it out and click the cable in question into position 10 in the connector. Then, put everything back in its place, and it should work.
If this line is not connected, the MSG (Modular Service Unit) will think that the central electrical system is malfunctioning, because the central electrical system reports the GRA (Gear Range Actuator) switch position via the CAN bus, but the MSG cannot detect this through the fail-safe signal. This will then result in the following error message:
