TDI V6 Idle Tick: Causes & Fixes

I've noticed that when my A6 is idling, it sometimes makes a loud ticking noise, but not always. When I open the oil cap while the engine is running, the noise is reduced or almost gone. What could it be?

No response for almost 4 months? What's going on here? Has anyone else experienced something like this?

If things don't get worse, you can only continue driving and wait. You can at most examine your vehicle for any signs of damage. The hydraulic components can also sometimes cause problems. But as I said, it's pointless to start working on it without knowing the exact cause. By the way, I hardly know any V6 engines that don't have some kind of ticking noise. Just observe it for now. Mine started ticking when it got cold and the camshafts were worn. It no longer ticks with the new camshafts.
It was a rather unsettling ticking sound...
