Error 01044 on CAN Gateway: How to fix it

I have the following information in my CAN gateway:

01044 - Control module incorrectly coded.
35-00--

How do I clear this error, or identify which control unit is not coded?

Okay, so I found something on Motor-Talk: This guy installed a Beta and a Gamma, and then the problem was in the CAN gateway.

I'm going to expand my Gamma system and then see how it goes (I really want to get my JVC radio with its 12-disc changer working again). Apparently, one of the control units isn't compatible with the CAN gateway, according to something I read in an American forum. I still find it baffling what a radio has to do with the CAN bus.

In newer vehicles, the radio is now integrated with the system. In addition, the radios from generation 5 onwards (i.e., from the Golf 4) are diagnostic-capable and are also connected to the diagnostic system.

That could certainly be the case. I once disconnected my Gamma because I wanted to use a Gamma IV CD changer with my Gamma 5. Unfortunately, the changer displays 'Play CD 1 Track 1' but doesn't play anything and can't be operated. I probably still have an error in the adapter cable. Why a diagnosis? The radio can detect cable breaks or faulty speakers.

You might not, but the manufacturer (VW) wants to give the inexperienced mechanic a tool for diagnosis so that he can make correct decisions.

... Or maybe not. The following scenario happened to me:
I have a Gamma V stereo system installed in my Lupo. This particular Gamma model is only available in China!
When I took the Lupo in for its service during the warranty period, I returned to find that the radio was missing. "... we ordered a replacement." My question of why was then apparently too much "... it was defective... there's an entry in the error memory indicating a fault with the rear speakers (which the Lupo doesn't have!) ... and the serial number isn't displayed correctly." Of course, the device is clearly marked with a large red sticker as a "development device," and these types of devices don't have serial numbers.
"... but the diagnosis indicated that the radio was defective..." Those who can read have a clear advantage .

When you read the WFS (Vehicle Feature System) or the engine control unit (ECU), you will retrieve information such as the serial number of the car radio. That's what I mean by "paired" or "linked." There are other features implemented as well, which I can't or won't talk about here.

Theft detection or something? Well, I don't care, my Gamma is coming out and it's not allowed to shout on the CAN bus anymore. 'Switching devices are simply too expensive (I'm not going to pay 300 euros for a 6-way switch).'

For example, Panasonic's 6x and 8x Blu-ray drives are compatible with Beta V and are often available on eBay for significantly less than 100 euros.

I also had this code listed for a very long time because it was encoded as 00004 (ABS). I then set it to 00006 (ABS, Airbag), and now the error can be cleared.

Even with correct encoding, this kind of issue can sometimes occur, leading to partial or complete malfunctions. Then turn the ignition off, turn it back on, and simply enter/confirm the code again.

Regarding the question War Lord asked, the issue with the Passat model year 2000 (Y) is normal and can be ignored. You won't notice any difference in your vehicle.

It depends on the software version or the manufacturer of the instrument cluster, not on the model year.
