Post22-01-2014, 8:31    Subject: Stuttering During Regeneration: Which MWB Logs? Quote

Good morning!

My Polo 9N3 (1.4 TDI, 3-cylinder BWB, mileage: 214,000 km, with a recently refurbished cylinder head) has been shaking more noticeably lately during the DPF regeneration process.

Ich möchte während der Fahrt mal die interessanten MWB loggen. WWhat would those be?
And where can I find information about when the next regeneration is scheduled?

Thank you and best regards.
Volker.

Hello,

Please always include an Autoscan report with such questions, because otherwise you either have to guess or do extensive research to find out which control units are installed, instead of simply seeing them.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello,

For those interested in the regeneration process itself, data blocks 67-70 are particularly relevant.

Jerking/Hesitation: Also, please also consider the engine mounts or the ash level in the DPF. At this mileage, the DPF should have already been replaced or cleaned.

If the "jerking" only occurs during regeneration, you can also log value 1 in measurement block 10. If there are "drops" in the values, the cause could be a clogged DPF, as this can sometimes trigger the turbocharger to pump in certain operating conditions.
Typically, this occurs at low engine speeds and low ambient air pressure, with a low air mass flow but a high boost pressure requirement.

Hello Rainer,

Thank you for your feedback!
I would like to rule out engine mounts for now, as the jerking only occurs during regeneration.
And the DPF hasn't been replaced yet, I'm curious to see what the diagnostic readings say. However, I imagine that in my case, it's not yet at the point where it needs to be replaced, because I drive 55,000 km per year.

It could actually be something real... I think.

I will report!

I have created the log and posted it under the link mentioned above.

Can you tell me something about the condition of the DPF, Rainer?

Best regards,
Volker

Hello,

Quote:
up to 90 mbar differential pressure

Regarding the condition of the DPF, the following can be said:
- Either the 1.4 TDI received the same DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) as the 1.9/2.0 TDI engines, which results in lower exhaust emissions and less ash buildup due to reduced oil/fuel consumption, thus explaining the low differential pressure.
- Or, the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is not in perfect condition, meaning the ceramic component has cracks.

Whether it's the former or the latter, for the engine's perspective, there is no need for action regarding the DPF. If the rear is black, the latter is likely to be the case. icon_wink.gif

Consequently, if the rear of the unit is not black and all openings on the DPF are properly screwed/sealed, including the lines to the differential pressure sensor, then everything is fine with the DPF.

Only in the event that the ash mass exceeds the limit, should this value be moderately reset (halved), so that the engine control unit does not solely rely on the programmed ash mass to initiate regeneration cycles, which could then lead to a visit to the workshop.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,

Thank you for your assessment!
The rear is completely free of soot, which is a relief!

Best regards, Volker.
