Octavia RS TFSI: Top Speed Problem (2008)

I hope there are some tips here that can help me figure out how to identify and solve a potential problem.

Here's the translation:

It's about a Skoda Octavia TFSI, manufactured in August 2008.

The vehicle does not reach the maximum speed of 238 km/h stated in the registration document.

Measured with GPS: 236. According to the speedometer: just about 245/250, +/- depending on the "weather conditions."
Standard tire size: 225/40/18.

Well, one might think, what's the big deal about just 2 km/h?
It's about the principle. Nothing more, nothing less.
According to some reports from other TFSI (Octavia) drivers, the 2006/2007 models are generally reaching speeds close to the speedometer's maximum (270 km/h).
"Now I've made contact with 3 users who also have 2008 models, and they're only achieving speeds of 240/250 Mbps, just like mine."
Comparable vehicles with 250 horsepower actually achieve 250 horsepower.
You almost instinctively nod your head when you see a reading of 245, as if something is "holding it back."

But even increasing the performance didn't help.
Wendland, A-B-T, and ****4***** have already "attempted" to do so...

I had the vehicle tested four times, and it produces 261 horsepower according to DIN standards.

The shut-off valve has already been replaced, but it didn't solve the problem.
The car consistently reaches 250 km/h in both directions on my test track.
(If not, then preferably 245.)

The performance is quite good up to 240. At 245, it only reaches 250 over a distance of 12km, and beyond that, there's absolutely no further improvement.

I've now bought myself a VCDS.

Can anyone give me some tips on what I can use VCDS to check for in order to potentially identify a problem?

Exhaust gas temperature, boost pressure, fuel injection quantity, etc. If possible, please indicate where I can find these measurement blocks.

The diesel clunker... (I should have stuck with the TDI, haha).

Is it possibly deactivated? Newer TDI models also have DPFs.

It should be in a measurement block within the engine control unit (ECU). (I don't know which one.)

Since the series is supposed to only have 238 episodes, I would be very surprised if there was any kind of manipulation or interference involved.
But that's exactly what I suspect, but the question is how to find out, and that's where YOU come in.

Yes, exactly. Check the fuel injection amount at maximum speed. If it's being reduced, then you'll know what the problem is, whether it's a low load torque (LLT) setting that's too high, or something else.
Perhaps it's simply normal. After all, who looks at a difference of 2 km/h? There's always some deviation from what's displayed. Not every engine performs equally well or poorly. I've also heard something about a throttle in the transmission – maybe that's related?
How many revolutions per minute (RPM) are there at maximum speed? Is it just before the redline?

No, it's currently running at around 5900 RPM. There's still about 1000 RPM of headroom in terms of the gear ratio.

2 km/h isn't much. But we're talking about 2 km/h that are missing from the standard performance.

I have 60 horsepower more than the standard model, but the car runs like a dream at approximately 250 km/h ( speedometer).

According to the registration, my car should have 240 horsepower.
It can reach a top speed of 245 km/h, but the actual speed is 236 +/- 1-2 km/h.

With 270 horsepower, it is said to actually reach a top speed of 252 km/h.

I have 261 horsepower, but it's still only running at "just" 236 +/-.

I understand that every kilometer per hour requires power proportional to the square of the speed.
But with 260 horsepower with that gearing, it should be capable of more than 236 km/h.

Are you absolutely sure it doesn't lose power at higher RPMs (no, I'm not talking about misfires, just in terms of power output)? At what RPM does it produce the power you're quoting? A tuned turbocharged gasoline engine is very sensitive in the higher RPM range. To make it more durable, it's often detuned or over-fueled to prevent internal overheating. Ask the tuners if they allow it to run freely at the top end or if they revert to the original data in that range. They don't want to risk damaging it either. Maybe you're achieving maximum power at the RPM where you reach your top speed, and after that, the power decreases, and the engine can't rev any higher. Upload your power curve diagram here, and I'll take a look.

Take a look at the maximum speed that the engine control unit is reading.
Record it, of course, because you shouldn't be looking at your laptop while driving!

I can test and record the VMax with the standard performance settings again tonight.

If I remember correctly, the maximum power is specified at 5840 RPM.

It could be considered a "problem" or a reason. But then, wouldn't the other Octavias be able to run "faster" than 20 km/h?

Can I log speed, RPM, and fuel injection volume simultaneously, along with the data that the engine control unit (ECU) is already recording, or do I need to make two separate trips?

If other Octavia models have a different control unit, then that could certainly be the reason, but they will likely end up stuck on the road sooner or later.

Now that you have access to a vehicle diagnostic tool, you could post a scan report, at least of the engine, and possibly the transmission if it's a DSG.

What kind of data do you need?

Top speed is a thing of the past. 240 according to the speedometer, 232 according to the engine control unit.

The car doesn't have any modifications installed at the moment because Skoda hasn't been able to code the replacement navigation system. (The A-B-T software has been removed.)

Exhaust gas temperature reached around 1000°C.

Boost pressure: 1.8 bar?!

I like to click on everything and log everything that might be helpful.
However, there's a lot of redundant information in the measurement blocks, and I'm not sure where everything belongs.

Are there any blocks or a kind of overview available?

Cucumber juice = gasoline? He only gets overpriced V-power 100 octane .

Sorry if I'm not an expert .

You just need to sit down once and go through all the data blocks (with the engine idling) to see where you can find what you're looking for. It might sound silly, but that's how it is. Every control unit has the information in different blocks, so there's no one-size-fits-all solution to find something. Also, you shouldn't log too many blocks at the same time, as this can introduce too much temporal deviation (latency).
