Hello,
I'm new here, but I've already read quite a bit.
It seems there are some VW technicians here.
Now, regarding my problem:
A 1Z engine, specifically the AFN model, was installed in a 1994 Golf 3 TDI, and everything is working correctly.
Now, the WFS should be read out using DWA in order to adjust the MSTG. This is where problems arise.
VW's diagnostic tool cannot locate the WFS control unit, and other troubleshooting methods have also failed. Replacing the WFS control unit did not resolve the issue. According to VW, the problem is a broken cable.
After several days of searching, there's been no change. According to the wiring diagram, the cables coming from the 1551 unit go to a 14-pin connector, but there's no information available about where those cables go from there.
What other options are there? I don't know what to do next.
VW stated that the code, which was likely entered at the factory, would not be released due to manipulation concerns.
Does anyone have a solution? VW is at a loss; they didn't even know that the model already had a WFS.
I hope for your help .

Hello,
Perhaps the specialists at VW should have looked at the wiring diagram of the WFS instead of the wiring of the 1551 to the diagnostic connector.
It is important to check at location T6/3 whether the wiring for the diagnostic bus is correctly connected and routed (this applies to separate WFS systems).
What car and model year is the AFN engine from? Then we can do some more specific research...
What exactly was replaced during the renovation (specifically regarding electronics)?
Please don't misunderstand the question:
Is this really an authorized VAG workshop? Based on the information you provided (don't know if WFS is installed, wiring check performed on 1551...), I have serious doubts about that (but it would fit with the experiences shared in the forum). Tschüss

Hello,
The connector T6/3 likely refers to the standard WFS control unit.
The one with DWA has both 8x and 12x occupancy.
In the VW wiring diagram, the image is not clear, so it's not possible to identify where the diagnostic connector should be located. I've searched through all the wiring diagrams.
The engine is from a 1997 Golf 3 AFN. The wiring harnesses are identical. The engine is currently running with the 1Z MSTG, but not properly.
My problem is figuring out which lines are used for the WFS diagnostic data.
best regards
dwarf123
P.S: It is possible to request information from the MSTG and ABS.

So, the DWA has nothing to do with the WFS, and it is also not diagnosable.
The WFS module is an additional component located to the right of the steering wheel.
You're not seriously suggesting that you're running an aftermarket fuel nozzle with the engine control unit (ECU) of a 1Z, are you?

Hello,
I had to quickly disassemble the Golf.
Okay, so the number is 1HO 953 233B.
The WFS is combined with the DWA.
However, the AFN engine is currently running with a modified vacuum system connected to a 1Z manual transmission.

Hello,
To the best of my knowledge, the part number 1HO 953 233B corresponds to a standard DWA (without WFS).
Is that installed in a 1994 1Z?
Sure, here is the translation:
"Continue:"
You only replaced the engine. The wiring harnesses and control units (except for the engine control unit) remained unchanged?
Are you sure you haven't installed a control unit (STG) with the part number 1H0 953 257 or a similar one?
Did you do the renovation yourself? Tschüss

Hello,
So, I'm not completely crazy after all.
I copied the number directly from the WFS department.
The vehicle has a transponder, deadweight alarm, and water level sensor.
It was manufactured in April 1994.
I did the renovation myself.
No further problems have occurred, but according to the tester, the MSTG is showing as locked, and the 'klar' setting is not adjusted.
But how do I obtain the WFS code?
'I initially ran it with all the parts from the AFN engine, but I encountered problems with the pressure sensors, so I removed them and installed the EUV parts. Now, it runs well with the 1Z engine control unit up to 2500 RPM, but after that, the turbocharger whistles, presumably because the turbine vanes aren't closing properly.'
Okay, I checked the wiring. Four cables run from the 1551: positive, negative, gray/white, and yellow.
The green/white and yellow wires go into the 14-way connector behind the control panel, and only two wires come out there - each green/white individually.
I'm guessing MSTG once, and ABS once.
The yellow wire doesn't seem to continue anywhere - could it be the cable?
I suspect that the WFS might not be diagnosable, but what can be done then?
P.S.: The symptoms observed in the AFN STG (presumably a specific device or system) also suggest a potential issue with WFS (likely referring to a wireless or communication system) – it briefly activates and then shuts off.

Hello,
Sorry, but I don't understand a few things anymore.
"If you're already at the VW workshop, why didn't you check the part numbers yourself? It shouldn't be a big deal if you have access to all the wiring diagrams."
2. If the AFN engine is running with the 1Z TCU, why didn't you try using the diagnostic functions of the alarm system (DWA) and the wastegate control (WFS) in that situation? Try using this to find the part numbers.
3. Only VAG (Volkswagen Group) can generate the adaptation code. This code is only valid for one day. To obtain it, you must prove legal ownership of the vehicle. That's all. Any authorized workshop can then assist you. Or, if a licensed workshop is involved in your case, they may even generate the code themselves.
4. I personally don't have much faith in VAG workshops. However, I find it highly unlikely that a workshop would be so clueless as not to even know how a diagnostic bus is structured (as you mentioned in your posts). A quick look at the documentation is usually enough (keyword: K/L line). That's why I asked the question at the beginning of the thread.
As I mentioned, I believe the number you posted refers to the DWA. As mentioned above, the WFS has a different number.
Unfortunately, I am not aware of any other combined STG models that are compatible with your specific model and MKB.
Please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. Tschüss

I'm sorry for confusing you.
I don't work at a VW workshop, and I don't have a high opinion of them.
I thought the same thing about the wiring diagrams. I got some wiring diagrams from a friend, but you can forget about them; they're impossible to understand.
Which part numbers are you referring to?
You already have the documents from the DWA, otherwise I would still need to find the ones from the 1Z MSTG and the AFN MSTG. The rest hasn't been replaced.
Diagnosis function of the vehicle's electronic control unit (ECU)?
The code itself isn't the problem. I've spoken at length with a master technician in the field, but he's also stuck because he can't access the WFS using the tester, and he doesn't have any other suggestions.
I was trying to figure out the pin assignments for the WFS, but besides the contact switches, only the power supply and the pin for the MSTG are listed. So, where is the diagnostic line supposed to be?
I'm at a loss.
Yes, you're right, officially you can't access those documents.
Thank you.

Hello,
Am I understanding you correctly: are you saying that the DWA control unit and the WFS are separate?
I saw that the standard storage location for the WFS is already 6 times and 3 times full.
Where can I find the error? Do you have any advice? I'm willing to learn.
I received the number from the STG (presumably a department or organization), and the person I spoke with, who was familiar with the DWA (likely an acronym for something), believed it was a combined number.
I can only tell you that VW also didn't know anything. The dealer wanted to order a new WFS control unit, but no one knew about it for this model. It wasn't until in Karlsruhe that it was discovered that this model has the WFS system. However, he wanted to replace the large black box behind the light switch, so it should have been combined.
It was probably a short series of VW vehicles, as Votex systems were mostly installed afterwards.
Bye, zwerg123.

Hello,
The DWA (likely a sensor or module) is located near the A-pillar. So, the installation location is correct. Above, you mentioned that the STG (likely a control unit) has 8 and 12 pins.
Bingo: That's exactly the DWA (without WFS). There are DWAs that have a relay to disconnect the starter motor. But that doesn't seem to be the problem here (but perhaps that's why you think you have a combined DWA and WFS).
Correct: The DWA and the WFS are housed in two separate enclosures.
WFS connection pinout:
T6/1: Terminal 15.
T6/2: Engine Control Unit (ECU)
T6/3: Distribution manifold with self-diagnosis.
T6/4: Ground connection.
T6/6: Ground connection.
T3/1: Reading coil antenna.
T3/2: Reading coil antenna.
T3/3: Reading coil shield.
Please provide the wiring diagrams for the control unit (STG) with the 8-pin and 12-pin connectors. Tschüss

Hello,
If this is supposed to be a DWA (vehicle security system) with WFS (vehicle immobilization system), where are the wires leading to the transponder coil in the steering lock? These are essential for a WFS.
According to your information, you have a DWA without WFS (please also refer to the posts above).
For simplicity's sake, just check where the wires from the transponder coil lead to.
The short timeframe (see above) that I mentioned referred to the DWA. This (with starter interruption) was only manufactured and installed from the beginning of 1994 to September 1994. However, this has nothing to do with the WFS.
If I understand you correctly, you're having the following problem:
The WFS (Wireless Field System) cannot be accessed via the diagnostic bus. However, this is necessary to adapt the WFS to the MSTG (Minimum Safety and Performance Requirements).
Then you should check the location of the WFS and, using the pin configuration from the top, verify that all the wiring is correct.
What address are you using to connect to the WFS (via 1551)?
Can you address the WFS (Wireless File System) when the 1Z STG (Storage Technology Group) is installed?
If so, what is the part number (which is displayed in the 1551)? Tschüss

Hello,
That would then mean that the vehicle either has a separate WFS (Wireless Flight System) or it doesn't, right?
I'll check tomorrow to see if I can find anything out.
According to the documentation for VW, the WFS with the 6-pin connector you mentioned will be available from October, so it probably isn't that one.
I also noticed the reading coil, but I thought it came in through some kind of connector. I'll have to disassemble the vehicle again to check.
I'll get back to you later.
Regards,
dwarf123
I disassembled the key, so there's a transponder inside.
Mir wurde vom Inhaber erklärt es wurde schon mal ein Schlüssel nachcodiert. ASo, it's a WFS after all.
Yes, I am also unable to access the WFS using the 1Z MSTG.
Neither with the 1551 nor with a Gutmann tester.
I've reviewed the circuit diagrams again, and the reading coil is not included in any of the models.
Not even with newer ones.
I'll try to trace the reading coil tomorrow, as far as possible, to see where the signal comes from; that might help. However, I suspect it's being routed through the relay box.

2. Do you have these small black boxes (WFS) located to the right of the steering column?
