"Because my clutch is quite soft and it stalls when I give it full throttle below 2000 RPM."
Can someone tell me which one fits my 5-speed gearbox?

The ZMS (torque dampener) for the AVF engine with a 6-speed transmission has a larger diameter and is more robust.
I would like to purchase one if it fits into my 5-speed gearbox.
I understand that a different starter motor is also needed.

Could a flywheel from a V6 TDI engine potentially be a good option, assuming it fits mechanically? icon_rolleyes.gif

Luke 4:15-12:10
Sachs 2294 000 453
or VAG 028 105 266 A or D, also AK.

These numbers are for the 228mm wheel that comes as original equipment. I can't help you with your modification plans.

Does anyone know if there's a difference between the two ZMS systems?
1- 03G 105 266 N
2- 03G 105 266 AT

The latter comes from a 2.0 170 hp -PD TDI A4 Quattro.

They are of the same design. The corresponding LUK part number for both OE numbers is, for example, 415 0244 10.

It also has the same design as the other two.

Okay, thanks. I was almost sure. But it's still strange why they always assign different part numbers when the part is actually the same.

So, I now have 2 matching ZMS (presumably referring to a specific part) at home, which I will probably replace sometime this weekend. icon_biggrin.gif

Hi Steffarn,

Which symptoms are you so sure are related to the dual-mass flywheel (DMF)? Or, why can you rule out other problems, such as a worn engine mount?

Hi Steffarn,

Which symptoms do you confidently attribute to the ZMS?

Okay, the ZMS is still the first one. You can feel it when you're pushing it hard, as it jumps from 1500-2000 RPM and then hits the limiter.

"When doing chip tuning, the fuel injection amount had to be kept close to the standard level up to 2000 RPM. Otherwise, the engine would jerk violently under full load, making it undrivable. That's why I'm planning to install the larger ZMS (presumably a flywheel or similar component). Then everything will be fine."

And what exactly does it feel like when it "hits the block"? That's what I meant by my question.icon_wink.gif

It's difficult to compare. It feels similar to the jerky behavior sometimes seen in poorly tuned TDI engines, especially at lower speeds.
So, there's a vibration that occurs in sync with the engine's revolutions or combustion. Sometimes, it's so strong that the entire body of the car starts to resonate with the throbbing.
When driving with the windows open, you might also hear a creaking sound from the torsional springs in the dual-mass flywheel (DMF). This doesn't sound healthy.
Once you've diagnosed a few flywheel defects, you develop a sense for how to identify them.

I know of a case where the catalytic converter failed during an emissions test, causing the engine to seize and leaving the car in a really bad state.

I hope the used parts I got from the junkyard are in good condition.
The parts should only have 33,000 km on them. icon_sad.gif But I'm not sure I trust the seller when I see the clutch like this.

Okay, the flywheel I'm going to install is from an AVF engine.
Part number: 038105266AC, which is no longer available and has been replaced by 03G105266N.

Unfortunately, the renovation plans fell through.
The clutch disc from the 6-speed transmission does not fit into the transmission bell housing of the 5-speed transmission. icon_exclaim.gif

Therefore, the old version remains in place. icon_cry.gif It's a shame about the work.
