Hello.
I am also one of the EA 1089 owners who are supposed to receive a new software update. However, I don't want the new software. My idea is to read out and save the old software, then have it updated to the new software, and finally reinstall the old software.

As far as I understand the topic, the control unit has several memory chips. To read some of them, the control unit needs to be opened. Several videos show how people then use contact pins to directly access the circuit board. However, workshops probably won't go through that much trouble. My question is: which memory chips are overwritten during the software update, and what tool would be sufficient to implement my idea?

Go to a tuner and have them do it. You need to open the ECU and create a bootmode backup. If you only do this once, the hardware/software will be too expensive.

I've been there too.
According to a motorsports company that was recommended to me, it is possible to create a backup.
After restoring the "good" software, the car will no longer start because some kind of identifier, checksum, or something similar has been altered.
Ultimately, I can't say for sure whether the statement is completely accurate.
Best regards, Jörg.

Your Ibiza has a data status of 03L906018KQ_9977 or older, which predates the "Dieselgate" scandal.
You don't need to back it up; it's a standard version. And it can be reinstalled using various tools, just like Volkswagen does.

Reading an EDC17 via boot mode is possible, as already mentioned, but reflashing it later can cause problems if the car has been driven in the meantime. However, this can also be done if you know which areas are safe to flash and which are not.

You can relax, the "Dieselgate" update on the Ibiza has no negative effects. They didn't really change much – they just deactivated the switching function, and it runs with a slightly higher amount of EGR when driving very slowly.

The AGR valves on the 2.0 TDI engines don't last forever, so work in that area is to be expected sooner or later – whether with or without an update.

Hello.

Yes, I've calmed down a bit now. I'm almost relaxed.
My 60,000-mile service is due soon. I have an appointment next week.
Then the update will be installed as well.
Perhaps I should drive a bit faster to keep the EGR valve closed more often. icon_wink.gif
I'm curious to see what the regeneration intervals for the particulate filter will be after the update. Currently, the interval is set at 600 km.

Best regards, Jörg.
