Hello,
I have a few questions for those of you who have already replaced a high-pressure pump (pump head and piston).
- Is the large end cap already installed in the new pump, or does it need to be taken from the old one?
- Are there any specific considerations regarding the start of injection or the amount of fuel injected, and how these should be adjusted?
'I've disassembled and resealed pumps before, including those on flow meters; it's not rocket science. I also have all the necessary tools and equipment, as well as a full version of VAG-COM.'

Replacing it while it's installed is tricky... it's better to remove it and position it vertically. Make sure the spacer for the pump piston is properly positioned and has the correct thickness.
Best regards, Rainer.

Rainer,
I have removed all the pumps that I have worked on so far. I don't believe in doing any work on pumps while they are installed, especially since the removal process is actually quite quick.
My question mainly concerns the necessity of any measurement or adjustment procedures. Somewhere (I can't remember where!), I once read something about calibrating the HD pump. However, I can't quite figure out how that would work based on the way the VP37 functions.

With the pump fully extended, the piston must not hit the front.

The large central screw is not included with the new HD part.
However, I would never reuse the old one, but would buy a new one (5 euros).
Because I had already experienced terrible problems with this screw.
The in-situ replacement would be my preferred option, as I've done it approximately 10 times before.
If you approach the task carefully, it is very safe and you can save a lot of time.
