HI,
Why is the steering in a standard Golf 4 easier than in a Seat Leon TopSport? This was tested with identical tires: 18-inch wheels and a 225mm width. If it's an intentional design choice for the steering system, why only for certain models?
It really gets on my nerves when I have to go on long trips.

A friend of mine has a top-of-the-line sports car, and the steering feels exactly like it does in my Golf. Actually, I haven't driven any Leons yet where the steering felt significantly heavier or lighter.
What is the difference in your case? MfG. Michael

It seems like the steering systems in different Leon models can vary quite a bit in terms of how easily they turn. In my first Leon, the steering was lighter than in a later model year.

Hi,
The differences lie in the variants of the models. The Leon Sport, Cupra, or Golf GTI have a slightly heavier steering system with limited power steering assist due to the larger wheels they are equipped with. This steering feel is likely also intentionally tuned to be firmer. In my ALH G4, which has no sporty or GT/GTI trim, a different steering system is installed. I can tell this by the part numbers and PR codes.
You can really feel the difference when you have a direct comparison, like I do.
Has anyone ever remodeled something because of this annoyance? 2010 Caddy kombi life 103 tdisg6 BMM KXW

To my knowledge, only the R32 in the fourth generation Golf had a different steering rack (requiring fewer turns from lock to lock) compared to the other models. MfG. Michael

There are different steering systems; compare the part numbers and product codes. The steering gear seems to play a major role in vehicle manufacturers' chassis tuning.
Besides replacing the steering gear, are there any other options? For example, could the control valves be changed? If anyone knows anything about this, please share your knowledge. 2010 Caddy kombi life 103 tdisg6 BMM KXW

'@redr32 - if that's the case, it makes sense. Also, I think the steering in the sport models feels less precise... not so nice. On the other hand, driving on the highway at high speeds is more relaxed this way.'
