ECU Login Codes: Unlock Your Car's System

Hello.

I'm having a problem because I want to retrofit the larger MFA (Multifunction Display) and cruise control to my girlfriend's VW Polo 9N.

Car data:
Chassis number: WVWZZZ9NZ2D035134
Engine code: BBY.
Hightline 55 kW.

I got the correct steering column levers from VW and ordered a combination instrument with a large MFA (multifunction display)! The login code is included.
I now need to read the data from the old control unit and transfer it to the new one. Can I do this with the latest VCDS (VAG-COM) version? If so, can someone provide me with all the necessary login codes for this car?
According to my Volkswagen dealer, this can now only be done through an internet update from the factory. Is that correct, or is there anything else that can be done?

I didn't mean the encoding codes, but rather the login codes for control units.

It depends on whether you have IMMO III or IV. Unfortunately, your information is correct for IMMO IV. The codes are requested from VW at the factory and then provided by the factory. These codes are only valid for 24 hours. After that, a new one must be requested. For IMMO III, you don't need a code from the factory, but you do need the code from the old speedometer.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what you have. Volkswagen won't give you the data you need anyway. Just let them do it; it's not that expensive.

Even with the WFS4 system, the WFS components are paired using the login code.
You don't need an online connection to use the device/machine.

Find someone who can read out your login code to you.

Where can I find out if I have Immo 3 or 4?
And where can I get the code from the old speedometer? That's actually my main problem!
The VW dealer near me says that it's not possible to retrofit the feature, and therefore they can't do anything about it! Just stubborn people.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to determine whether a Polo has IMMO III or IV. To read the login code, you need either VAG-Dash-COM or VAG-Dash-CAN, depending on the year of manufacture. Ask here; they should be the most knowledgeable about it.

I have one for the Allroad AKE, but I need to make the others first. With this weather, you wouldn't want to take anything outside. It's really stormy here.

The login codes are known for specific vehicle production years and are even displayed by the VCDS software. Am I mistaken about that?

Unfortunately, that's not the case. It always shows "5x0" for those specific production years. That's incredibly frustrating.
According to what I've found online, the code is generated from the VIN. Alternatively, it can be read out using a VAGdashcam (expensive equipment costing five figures).
Since I don't want to constantly have to transport my cars across the country to the nearest Audi dealer (which also cost me €188 last time) just to have the ESP re-synchronized with the WFS, it would be great to have those login credentials. It would save me time and money.

He's not talking about the usual logins required to unlock certain features, but rather about the login for the immobilizer system.
It makes me smile to think that someone still seriously believes they can easily access vehicle data via the internet using just a few numbers. Even considering the weather.
The GTI-TDI user wrote everything there is to know about it over 10 years ago at the top of this thread. Since then, nothing has changed regarding the WFS 3.
For convenience, here's a brief summary again:
These codes are individually assigned to each vehicle and cannot be calculated from the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Audi/VW will not provide them because they do not have access to them. The learning procedure currently used in dealerships is performed with a tester connected to the internet, and it is designed so that the employee performing the process does not see the code. They cannot tell you the code because they will never know it.
You'll need the appropriate equipment to access the code yourself. The "Dash Can" was already mentioned; with that, you can easily extract it from the MSG (Main System Gateway) in an Audi AKE, for example. There are also various other programs available that allow you to retrieve the code from the speedometer. However, the result is the same. Once you have the code, you can quickly program the pump using VCDS.

A long time ago, the third car key, the plastic one, used to come with a tag that had a scratch-off field on it. This code was printed on that tag. Volkswagen stopped using this system with the introduction of the WFS 3. Škoda continued using it for a few more years. I don't know how long Audi used it, though. Maybe you'll be lucky and find one.

1. Your question about the login

Your question has already been answered sufficiently.

Your vehicle is equipped with the very old EDC 15 system. There are plenty of ways to gain access to it for a relatively low price.
The internet is full, and Google is your friend.

The most affordable option might be the VAG key shown in the picture.

Or you could find someone who uses the Polish version of VCDS, as it might also be able to do that.

2. Your scan and your ESP.

I took a look at your car scan the other day. It's quite an old piece of equipment.

I can't detect any problems with the ESP itself, but I can see that you have error code 00741 registered.

He is tricky.

I don't want to spoil your fun of changing the ESP, but please take a closer look at this error and fix it before you start working on your ESP problem.

If your brake light switch TURNS ON TOO LATE, your ABS control unit will assume a faulty brake pressure sensor, and you will have a problem with the ESP.

You can check this in the MWB (German Central Register of Companies).

whether the signal indicating that the brake light switch is activated appears before 4 bar of pressure are built up.

Perhaps you could run another car scan and include the information about your ESP issue.
