The wheel bearing is a single unit that includes the hub.
How does it come out of the wheel bearing housing? Has anyone done this before, and can anyone offer any tips? A press is available. Gruß, der Teileklaus

Hello Klaus,
Here are the instructions:
Pressing out wheel bearings.
- Using the wrench on the ground, loosen the 12-point nut on the wheel hub of the vehicle.
Warning: If the screw is loose, the wheel bearing can be damaged by the vehicle's own weight. Do not loosen the screw if the vehicle is resting on its wheels.
- Build the front wheel.
- Assemble the brake caliper completely with the brake bracket and secure the assembly to the vehicle body.
- Remove the brake disc.
- Disassemble the ABS wheel speed sensor.
- Unscrew the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
- Use the puller to press the control arm downwards, away from the ball joint - VW: part number T40010.
- Use the puller -VW: T 10103- and the adapter -VW: T 10103/2- to press the driveshaft out of the wheel hub.
- Secure the driveshaft to the vehicle body.
- Reinstall the control arm into the hub assembly to stabilize the wheel bearing housing, and then tighten the nut on the hub assembly by hand.
- Center the gripping tools - VW: T10205/12--3- behind the wheel hub, using the wheel bolts.
- Place the engine and transmission jack - V.A.G 1383 A - under the wheel bearing housing.
- Press the wheel hub assembly with the wheel bearing out of the wheel bearing housing, while holding the device securely in place.
Pressing in a new bearing.
- Remove any dirt from the wheel bearing seat and apply a thin, even layer of Molykotefett - G 052 723 A2 - grease around the entire bore.
- Assemble the wheel hub unit with the wheel bearing, along with the tools as shown in the diagram, onto the wheel bearing housing.
During the pressing process, the pressure reading should be between 90 and 140 bar just before the pressing is complete. The maximum pressing pressure must not exceed 310 bar.
– Press the wheel bearing/wheel hub assembly in until the retaining ring clicks audibly into place.
Make sure the wheel bearing doesn't get stuck during the pressing process.
- Install the driveshaft.
- Install the ABS wheel speed sensor.
- Mount the brake disc.
- Install the entire brake caliper assembly, including the brake bracket.
- Attach the wheel and tighten it securely.
Greetings.
Georg.

Great, Georg.
I already have the materials, now I just need to find the pressing tools, which I can either replicate or adapt from existing ones.
Do you happen to have any pictures of it? Gruß, der Teileklaus

Hello, I would like to thank you both, Georg and Steffen, again for your help with the initial repair of the T5 wheel bearing. It's not easy to remove without the pullers, and it's even harder to install correctly because the outer ring of the bearing is difficult to access.
The inner bearing ring that remains on the wheel hub is also tricky, as it cannot be easily gripped with a three-arm puller.
Has anyone ever tried welding a "caterpillar" (a segmented metal ring) onto the bearing ring to heat it up and make it easier to pull off? Or how else can you remove it without a special puller and without having to force it in an elegant way?
I used one arm of a lever to alternately lift and then pry, and then used a three-armed tool to remove it. Gruß, der Teileklaus

If you don't have a specific puller for it, a sharp flat chisel can be used to widen the gap enough so that a regular puller can grip it. You also don't need to hit it particularly hard, and of course, the hub should be clamped in a way that prevents it from bending during the process. Gruß Christian

I've tried that method before, but it always damages the wheel hub, requiring further grinding... it's just not a good or proper way to do it. And then, my puller didn't grip properly because the wheel hub is hollow (making it difficult to provide a stable base), and the bearing ring couldn't be fully removed.
But thank you for the answer, Christians. Gruß, der Teileklaus

Well, in my case, the Flex usually had the bigger problems...
I've now bought some special separating tools. They're called "Pullerset," but they don't contain any pumpkin seeds. Gruß Christian
