I installed an aftermarket parking distance control (PDC) system on my Golf IV (from Conrad, not original). I'm quite happy with it so far, but I still need to properly install the control unit; I'm not very impressed with the adhesive pads that were included.
"For the original PDC control unit, VW offers a metal bracket that is presumably screwed onto somewhere behind the right side trunk lining. I would like to use this bracket. Does anyone know where the exact mounting points for this control unit bracket are? Maybe someone even has a photo..."
Hello Stefan,
Take a look at Rameder's website for the installation instructions for the G4.
Since (in the case of a corresponding electrical connection), a cable needs to be run to the parking distance control system.
It's often very well documented (at least it was with my Octavia).
Perhaps this will be helpful.
Okay, now that I've installed the control unit with the original bracket, here's a quick update for anyone who might have the same question in the future:
The bracket is screwed onto the trunk floor under the right taillight. Unfortunately, there are no pre-installed nuts here; instead, there are only two hexagonal recesses in the body panel. This is where blind rivets are inserted, which are then set using a riveting tool (I had this done by VW because I didn't have the appropriate tool).
Overall, it's not as simple as double-sided tape (which is common with retrofit solutions), but it's a very decent solution. There's also enough space under the attached control unit to neatly organize the wiring harness.
