VCDS Function: Engine Control Unit (ECU) Mileage. Why is it so rare?

Hello.

Why is the function "read engine control unit mileage" not supported by almost any control unit? So far, I've only found it working on two vehicles. Both were Sharan models, one from 2001 and the other from 2002, both with a 1.9 TDI PD engine, MKB: AJM.
What experiences do you have, and what was it like for you in those situations?

P.S. Yesterday, I had a 2009 A4 with a 2.0 TDI CR engine. It didn't work even then.

I can read the data from the Leon and Ibiza models, but not from the Golf.

My Golf and T4 aren't working either.

Could it be due to the different VCDS versions?
Who knows more?

Polo 9N ASZ from 2004: available.
Ibiza Cupra TDI BUK from 2006: also works.

What is supported? Some EDC15+16 .

Okay. That explains why the 2008 Jetta didn't work. Just out of curiosity: are there any gasoline-powered models that do work?

Regarding the cars listed in my signature, the feature doesn't work on the Passat or the Sharan. I once had an Alhambra with engine code AUY where it did work. It hasn't worked on any of the other models I've ever accessed.

Octavia 2002 ASV - no.
Ibiza 2003 ASZ - yes.
Alhambra 2004 ASZ - no.

A6 2003 AWX - no.
2 x Passat 2001 with AJM engine - yes.
2x Sharan 2003 ASZ - no.
Alhambra 2003 AUY - yes.
Passat 2004 (100 hp) - no.
Polo 2002 (100 hp) - no.

My Golf ASZ from 2002 also has something against .

The bus isn't working either.

I have never had success .

As you can see, it seems that the AJM/AUY engine actually works in almost every car and year of manufacture.

The 2005 Touran with the 2.0 BKD engine is not working.

Golf IV ALH 2001 --> Available/Works.

Everything else has been fine so far.
