Hey,

I've noticed that when the oil filler cap is removed, there's a whitish vapor coming from the oil filler neck.
I don't have any pressure, the lid just sits on top and doesn't move.

However, if the opening is open, it will emit white steam.
The steam smells like oil - it's been like that since I've owned the car.

I'm not going to let that cool down.

Are these oil components, or is it water that's evaporating, or is it something mechanical?

The engine is a 2.5 V6 TDI with the engine code BDG.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"LG" is an abbreviation for "Liebe Grüße," which means "Best regards" or "Best wishes" in English.
