Hello!
I have studied the article with the gear data very carefully, but I still don't understand...
Unfortunately, I still don't understand. I have an A3 TDI AGR model from 1997, and it's quite nice.
"I had it chipped to increase the horsepower to 125 PS, and now my car is making a strange noise after a longer drive."
5th gear. I thought I'd just put it in the highest gear right away.
As I said, all the data on the page doesn't tell me anything.
We would be incredibly grateful if someone could tell us which gears are needed.
I need that. A part number would be great.
Best regards, Sevi.

Hello Tagessuppe,
'In AGR vehicles, the EBJ transmission was often used. It differs from the EBF transmission, which was installed in my AHF engine (81 kW), only in its 5th gear ratio. So, if you have an EBJ transmission or a similar one (ask your local Audi dealer), the gear ratios are likely the same as mine.'
I had the gears installed.
02A-311.158-R for approximately €110.
02A-311.361-M, approximately €70 each plus VAT, if I remember correctly.
It has approximately 100-300 fewer revolutions per minute within its usable speed range compared to before, at the same speed. For example, 3100 RPM at 160 km/h.
Sollte bei dir etwas weniger Unterschied machen, weil das EBJ schon einen etwas längeren 5. Has a swagger.
I wouldn't recommend a much longer translation to you, as it's already making my processing quite slow. Currently, it's still unchipped and, according to the dyno, it produces between 125 and 130 horsepower and around 290 Nm of torque.
I'm planning to have my car's engine remapped soon. If it still doesn't perform well in 5th gear after that, I'll replace the gears again and put the old ones back in. If you can wait until March 13th, I might be able to sell you the gears used, if you're interested. We'd need to check beforehand to see if they're compatible. The VW dealer can't tell you for sure based on their records; the only way to know is to take the gears out and look, or to disassemble the transmission, measure everything, and I can tell you the dimensions of my old gears. I have them right here in front of me. If they fit your car, then the longer gear ratios will also work.
Perhaps MichaelII can also help with that; I think he's quite knowledgeable in that area .
Stefan.

Hi Stefan,
If you want to get rid of the gears, I am also interested .
Best regards, Rainer.
PS: The turbo has been overhauled and is well-lubricated, ready for use (which hopefully will never be necessary).

Hi Kenny.
Thanks again for your advice.
I've already contacted both MichaelII and Rainer, but without a response.
Reaction.
I can only tell you that if you do things correctly, you'll want a longer wheelbase. My fifth one is extremely underpowered. According to the speedometer, it can go up to 220 km/h, but unfortunately, the climate control only displays 193 km/h from 200 km/h onwards.
I already asked the dealer, but as expected, he told me that nothing can be changed about it.
It looks like it will probably take some more time before it finally works for me.
And you're saying that removing the gearbox is really that easy?
I think I'd only consider doing that if I had a second car.
(in case I can't put it back together).
Thank you very much again!

Shifting to the 5th gear is easy. I didn't have to remove the transmission to do it!
Put the car on the lift, turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. Remove the engine underbody panel. Position an oil drain pan underneath, and unscrew the cover from the transmission.
You can immediately see the two gears. In front of one of them is the shift linkage (?). The shafts need to be loosened, and then the gears can be removed with a puller. It's a bit fiddly, and you have to be careful not to lose the small parts (in front of one of the gears). Then, install everything in reverse order with the new parts. Fresh transmission oil - and you're done.
However, you should only do this with someone who has experience working on transmissions.
Best regards,
Stefan.
Oh yes, and it must include idle speed!

It doesn't sound very difficult. By "gear cover," do you mean something other than the transmission bell housing?
Okay, I've already disassembled the transmission on my Vespa before.
and even reassembled *I put it back together myself *self-high-five*.
Well, I'm already curious to see how it will turn out.
And hopefully, you'll tell us about your modifications and how much they improved things.
The 5th one will be too short for you.
Do you already have a specific tuner in mind?
Best regards, Sevi.

I had ******** adjust the timing. Right now, the timing is too advanced for me. While it's very pleasant in terms of fuel consumption and noise, and it's probably good for the engine since it doesn't have to rev as high, it's simply become too slow.
The biggest noise problem I had was also with the doors and seals, which weren't sealing properly. I had the doors adjusted and the seals replaced, and now it's quiet.
I hope that after the tuning, it will feel a bit faster again. If not, I'll put the old 5th gear back in. If it works well then, I'll leave it as it is.
I would ideally want a 6-speed gearbox, with the 5th gear being similar to the old 5th gear in the AHF, perhaps just a little shorter for acceleration, and a very long 6th gear for maintaining speed at low RPMs.
By the way, the maximum speed is affected by the high gears; mine now reaches, according to the speedometer, 205 to a maximum of 210 km/h with a lot of acceleration. Before, it easily exceeded 210 km/h. So, the longer it goes on, the slower it gets...

"So, Wetterau is definitely the best choice. I had a [something] two years ago."
"I had a Wetterau chip installed, and the car turned into a rocket."
As I mentioned, it went from 90 to 125 horsepower. I initially had the second stage installed, and when I wanted the third stage, they reprogrammed the chip for me free of charge.
For your car, they have performance upgrades available up to 159 horsepower.
And remember my words: After that, your 5th [gear/setting/etc.] will feel too short ;o)
Don't forget to submit the report!!!

Okay, so I promised I would get back to you: There's really a huge difference between the tuned car and the standard version. I'm completely in love with the acceleration, I could honestly drive forever *g*.
I have a mid-range ******** model, but I really don't need anything more powerful! There's another one that's supposed to produce less soot, but I can't detect any difference in soot production. I can't even tell if it's producing more soot when I'm following someone else in my car.
In 5th gear, it now runs quite nicely again. 160 km/h is reached in no time, and according to the speedometer, it goes like this... I can't say exactly, but it's definitely a little over 220 km/h, after which the numbers stop .
Ich hab ja einen etwas längeren 5. All set.
'But getting the car chipped was definitely a good investment. Especially: if you don't use the extra power and just cruise along with the cruise control, it doesn't consume any more fuel than before (according to the MFA). I think that with such a conservative driving style, the tuning probably doesn't have a major impact on the lifespan.'
The only downside: At certain speeds, especially when accelerating quickly, I'm now experiencing noticeable vibrations. If I ease off the gas a little, they disappear... should I be concerned about this?

Wow, the combination of the chip and the long 5th gear is really something. How many horsepower does yours have now? Mine, with 125 hp, also reaches 220 km/h according to the speedometer, but it starts to sound strained at 4,300 rpm, and then I feel a bit sorry for it.
I don't think that will damage the engine. After all, you're probably warming it up gently. What kind of oil are you using?
Well, maybe Rainer or Michael II will eventually figure out which specific bike parts I need and write them down for me.
Best regards and have fun with your rocket! ;o)

I don't know it by heart either. But I think I remember that something was already written about it.
The revised search function is your friend .

Hello,
According to ********, the car with the chip has 143 hp and 285 Nm of torque. Today, I did several tests using a performance calculator. I consistently get results of 5.2 - 5.4 seconds. I tested on different tracks and in different directions. I couldn't believe it at first. The car is officially registered as weighing 1296 kg, plus 75 kg for the driver, plus the diesel fuel, and with plenty of optional equipment, it easily weighs over 1400 kg. According to Ulf's Excel file, my car had 145 - 152 hp and 300 - 320 Nm of torque today. Maybe I should ask ******** for a less powerful chip version; I don't want to overload the engine too much!
I've already posted part numbers above. I really wouldn't recommend a longer translation. Even with the 110 HP version, it was already too long; you couldn't get the car moving in 5th gear. Now it works much better; you can reach 160 km/h quite quickly. Besides, the wind noise in the Golf is so annoying anyway that the engine noise doesn't really matter.
Perhaps a longer top gear would be beneficial for fuel economy and engine longevity. However, if the fourth gear is also made longer (for acceleration), then either the fourth gear would need to be adjusted, or a sixth gear would be necessary for simply cruising.
Stefan.
P.S. Oh yeah, I always warm up the car properly, and even after longer highway drives, I drive a good distance slowly and try to avoid accelerating too much, so that the engine and turbo can cool down a bit.
'I use 10W40 year-round. I considered switching to a 0W... oil for the winter, but it would cost too much, and the benefit is questionable. I think a gentle driving style makes more of a difference. Besides, I don't have a long-life oil specification; I change the oil every 15,000 kilometers.'

Hi,
Regarding the weights: Most newer cars have "unladen weights" according to some EU standard, which takes into account the driver (75 kg) and fuel (half or three-quarters full). Therefore, this likely reduces your performance to the value specified for the chip.

Okay, yes, that seems about right! Do the optional extras add to the weight, or is that already included? In any case, the registered weight is 1300kg. If I calculate based on that, it's 140 horsepower and 299 Nm of torque. If I calculate based on 1400kg, it's the aforementioned 150 horsepower and 320 Nm... which, of course, varies depending on temperature and other factors.
I weigh exactly 75 kg myself, and the tank was completely full.
Definitely, the suit is enormously .

Hi Kenny. That chip sounds really good. But you really don't have to worry about the durability of your engine. It can handle it. I know of extremely modified TDI engines, for example, 100 PS PD engines tuned to 169 PS, and they run like the first day, only better *g*.
As I mentioned, I use Castrol 0W-30. I feel like it's the best oil for my engine. I also get it a bit cheaper. It costs 12 euros per liter, normally it costs 24 euros. And since I do the oil change myself, it doesn't end up being too expensive.
Best regards.
