Hi everyone, as the title suggests, I would like to disable the preheating function of my auxiliary heater. The reason for this is that the preheater itself starts up even when I'm just driving out of the garage or going from one store to another.
I don't think the function itself is bad, but it's far from ideal for STH.
In channel 6, you can disable the auxiliary heater, but apparently this only works for gasoline engines.
It's a Golf 5 TDI, manufactured in 2008.

I would recommend a temporary, manual deactivation via a hidden switch instead of a permanent deactivation (if possible through the OBD system).

It would be possible to use the auxiliary heater as a supplementary heater if needed.

Is it possible to do this without limiting the operation of the auxiliary heater?

I would give almost anything to have a diesel heater in my A4 icon_wink.gif.

I wonder if deactivating it with a switch might also affect the operation of the auxiliary heater. I assume that APK 006 is intended for gasoline engines, but it still works with diesel engines. However, if I remember correctly, the auxiliary heater should be able to be switched off via the ECON button on the air conditioning system. Perhaps it's worth taking a look at the vehicle's manual.

"@michiglaser - Sure, a switch would be one option, but it's not quite what I'm looking for, and I'm 99% certain that the STH (likely referring to a specific heating function) wouldn't work anymore either. If I want the auxiliary heater to be on during the warm-up phase, I could simply press the instant heat button."

@SebastianViewing profile: Sebastian - I've also heard about the ECON button, and I actually have a compatible control panel lying around. Since I currently have the AUTO/AC button installed, I still wanted to try to bypass the whole thing. Does it pose a problem from any perspective to revert to an older control panel with the ECON button? I installed the STH myself, so I won't find anything in the manual. I already tried APK 006 myself - the auxiliary heater still runs with icon_evil.gif.
There has to be a gap somewhere.

AC and ECON are essentially the same in what they do.
Only the display is inverted.

In a way, yes, but not when it comes to the heating function.
