hello

I'm not sure if you know this, but according to the spare parts description, the glow plugs are designed for 11 volts (Volvo D5 CR engine).

Can I still test them with a 12V battery, or is 12V too much?

It's always so simple with the TDI; you can just use an ammeter to bridge the positive terminal and see from the current draw whether the device is working.

THANK YOU

Hi,
Actually, all of the older type glow plugs (as far as I know) have a nominal voltage of 11V, and briefly connecting them to 12V won't hurt them for testing purposes.

With modern 7V models, it's important to be careful because they receive a PWM signal.

Does the D5 still not have a specific diagnosis code for the function of the gallbladder?

Best regards, Michael.

hello & thank you.

It's possible that he has that, but you need special equipment for it. At least, I don't have anything that would fit for the car.

Therefore, I prefer the mechanical test.

Don't be mistaken icon_exclaim.gif. With Bosch GSK, I've often encountered cases where these things glowed on the regulating coil. The tip (heating coil) remains relatively cold in such cases. In such a situation, the glow plug actually draws a bit more current icon_eek.gif.

My suggestion is: expand the setup and connect a test cable to the battery. You can even use it to test 5V glow plugs if you're prepared for that. I haven't tried using it to test ceramic igniters this way yet, though.

A pleasant side effect: when removing the threads, you can lubricate them at the same time (with grease or graphite paste), which helps prevent them from seizing in the aluminum cylinder head.

hello

All five candles are defective. Initially, I measured the resistance, and only one of them showed any resistance at all.

Then I connected it and there was no power - nothing.

super - BERU - original equipment manufacturer...

I ordered five NGK spark plugs icon_wink.gif.

The pencils were very soft and almost came out of the holder by hand. I'm quite sure these are the first BERU pencils, and that model number no longer exists; it has been replaced.
It is likely that the small engine was rarely left standing in the cold, but rather was always preheated with the heating system.

Are you sure that one can use grease here? I think grease would bake into carbon - and would graphite paste (if the paste base holds up) not lower the friction coefficients of the thread so much that the thread in the aluminum casting would be overloaded when tightened? icon_rolleyes.gif

Okay, but as you said, "specifically," which would at least avoid the problem of burning. What does VAG say about greasing the glow plug threads? My thought is that with a greased thread, the maximum preload would be reached with a lower tightening torque.

Yes, I've always sprayed anti-seize on the wheel studs. Apparently, you're not supposed to do that.

I'd definitely be interested at a price of 11,000.

The glow plugs only use about one-tenth of that amount.

On the other hand, anyone who has ever had to disassemble their entire head unit because of a stuck light bulb will probably be happy to spray something on it... that's just my guess.

The special GK "Fat" from Beru is very thin and works well.
Beru recommends it even with the nickel plating.

Beru recommends it despite the nickel plating.

I have a tube here.
Upon closer inspection, it's nothing more than ceramic paste.
Maybe you already have one.

Sure, you can, but it's more like a paste, similar to silicone grease.
The main thing is to get something threaded onto the threads.
