Hi,
since it appears that the service interval was not reset during the last service.
I then fulfilled the service request for our Polo on Saturday with a friendly reset.
answered.
When my better half left yesterday morning, the AI system grumbled, "Check the oil level" icon_eek.gif.
Result of the inspection: The oil level was still within the marker, but at the lower end.
0.5 liters added -> AI is happy.

Does the AI actually consider the mileage since the last oil change when providing an oil level warning?
"After a service reset, one might expect the engine to be ideally filled with oil, or is that a 'safety feature'?"
so that it becomes obvious during the test drive that the oil change was forgotten?

Best regards,
Micha

My AI system is already warning me about the oil level being at the minimum, but I find that okay, as it gives you time to refill. I don't think the system is that "intelligent" and knows that you've changed the oil.

Hmm...
The last time he checked the oil level, he added one liter to bring it back up.

I suspect the sensor isn't evaluated constantly, but periodically, perhaps during service or immediately after a service reset. Why do you let it get to the point where so much oil is missing? You could simply get into the habit of checking it, for example, while you're refueling.

It was always happening at the wrong time, when the oil pressure warning light came on in curves icon_twisted.gif.

PS: As soon as the hood was opened, the message in the instrument cluster disappeared, as it assumes that the oil level has been topped up. As far as I know, the oil level is detected using a dipstick with different heating sections. The cooling curve is used as feedback.

Hi Matthias,
Thank you for the hint...
I have here: http://www.t4-wiki.de/wiki/Geber_G266_%28%C3%96lstand/%C3%96ltemperatur%29
I found a pretty good description.

Best regards,
Micha

It's worth mentioning that in some vehicles, the warning message on the instrument cluster may not disappear even after topping up the oil, because the hood contact sensor is dirty or corroded.

It's also possible that the following factors played a role: the engine was warm in the evening and cold in the morning (1. sensor issues and 2. volume reduction due to cooling).

With DAF trucks, for example, the oil level can only be read once the engine has reached its operating temperature and has been stationary for 15 minutes. This is supposedly intended to provide a more accurate oil level check... However, no one mentions the fact that very few people actually have the time to wait that long for the check.
