I recently came across a strange phenomenon.

The power window on the passenger side only works as long as the engine is running.

As soon as the engine starts, nothing moves, neither up nor down.

Turn off the engine and turn on the ignition, and it will work again until the engine is started.

Even after the ignition is turned off, the window can still be closed and opened using the remote control.

However, the driver's side is working perfectly.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? I'm at a loss.

Regards,

Burli.

@Burli

Okay, in my 35i, the window lifters work until a door is opened (even with the ignition key removed). I believe this is also mentioned in the owner's manual. It might be related to the control unit for the right-side window lifter. By the way, do you have an original FFB (multifunction steering wheel) or an aftermarket one? If you need to, you can ask about it on www.35i.net.

@ampac

Same here, except that once the engine is started, the passenger-side window doesn't respond.

Interestingly, it didn't work again this morning or this afternoon.

Perhaps it's a temperature issue.

'Hey, do you happen to know where I can find a user manual for the 35i?'

I bought it used, and unfortunately, it didn't come with one.

Thank you and best regards.

Burli.

It could also be a cold solder joint in the power supply or somewhere else.
I recently discovered a few issues with the instrument cluster in my father's Passat (the vehicle's lights simply stopped working during a nighttime drive icon_exclaim.gif). After applying some forceful pressure to the dashboard icon_twisted.gif, it started working again icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif.

Observe whether the error only occurs during temperature fluctuations, or if it appears sporadically in other ways as well.

P.S: I believe you can obtain an instruction manual from the customer service department, but it's not very informative icon_wink.gif; it doesn't even list the AFN, only 1Z icon_sad.gif.

Perhaps the door contact is faulty, because, as Ampac already mentioned, they are no longer working... Although, even with the ignition on, they still work even when the doors are open. icon_rolleyes.gif
I also once had a similar, stupid control unit that was broken. icon_evil.gif Don't even ask what VW wants for one.
At my place, all the windows (including the skylight, which kept opening and closing, which was quite a hassle icon_lol.gif)

I suspect, like Ampac, that the problem is due to a cold solder joint, as it's only now occurring or has only been noticed with the current temperatures.

To avoid having to search for it, where is the control unit located?

Thank you and best regards.

On the 35i B4, the control unit is located on the EFH motors... ...so you need to remove the door panel. It's not a fun job icon_wink.gif. Good luck.

@Ampac, I heard that the ST control unit is supposedly located under the rear seat icon_rolleyes.gif.

For safety, here are the vehicle details again.

Passat 1.9 TDI, manufactured in August 1995, engine code 1Z.

Thank you again for your help.

Best regards, Burli.

For the pre-facelift models of the 35i (B3), the control unit is located under the rear seat, as they only have one control unit for all the lifting mechanisms.

It's the same with you as ampac already wrote. icon_wink.gif

Beim 35i B4 ist das STG an den EFH-Motoren... ....also Türverkleidung ab. Ist keine spaßige Arbeit icon_wink.gif . VGood luck.

Okay, I'm now strongly suspecting that it's a cold solder joint. At the current temperatures, the heater is working perfectly.

The control unit is either integrated into the engine or located in the connector that connects to the engine.

Thank you and best regards.

Burli.

Sorry, maybe I phrased that a bit awkwardly...
I'll answer that.
The electric lifter is one piece. You can easily unscrew it (I think it uses Torx screws). Inside, you'll find the control board and the motor. So, the motor won't fall apart into individual pieces when you unscrew it. However, you need to completely remove the entire unit, including the lifter.
(Caution: Be careful with the glass, don't let it fall into the door *shatters*).
