Hello everyone, and I'm here with a plea for help.

I've been driving a new Golf GTD for two weeks now, and I'm already starting to lose interest in driving it.
The reason for this, in my opinion, is the completely excessive "sound" inside the vehicle, which is electronically generated by a so-called body sound actuator.
Initially perceived as exciting, it now causes my adrenaline levels to rise in an unhealthy way.
Since this error code apparently cannot be cleared (control unit J869), I would like to disable it or disconnect it from the body of the car.

Can someone tell me the best way to approach him?
It's supposed to be mounted on the passenger side splash panel, but I'm not sure whether it should be installed from the inside or the outside.

"I would also be grateful for a more elegant solution."

Regards,
gobedi

Please provide a complete vehicle scan using VCDS, including data from the MicroCAN interface.

From the outside. The wiper arms and water reservoir cover must be removed. Seal the disconnected connector to prevent water from entering the wiring harness.

Can't it be done by "exporting it via the CAN gateway"?

"Isn't it possible to reduce the volume of this device so much that it no longer causes a disturbance? I would suggest a simple volume control for it – without having to use VCDS or anything like that. If an unnecessary source of noise is installed, then the customer should have the right to either turn it off or adjust it to a comfortable level."

However, the PDC devices also don't have a regulator attached to them.
Golf 5 with standard speaker configuration -> Volume is okay.
Rear seat folded down -> Sudden hearing loss.

However, most of them can be adjusted through diagnosis.

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

That would also interest me. Although I believe that the GTD gets much of its unique character precisely because of this sound. The current CR models, in my opinion, sound as exciting as a vacuum cleaner.

The item doesn't appear separately in any of the scans, at least not that I can see. I've attached a full scan (still using Beta 10.3.1 without a label for the motor).

@Hatdriver:
The system consists of a body sound control unit and a body sound actuator. I don't know if the connection to the actuator is monitored for plausibility. Otherwise, you could probably insert a voltage divider or potentiometer there. However, I don't know if the effort involved, including sealing and connectors, is worth it. Personally, I think it's fine as it is.

So, the Miele vacuum cleaners with a power rating of 1400-1800 watts definitely make quite a noise.
Mainly because they are electronically controlled to start up gradually, in order not to trip the household circuit breakers.
You start the vacuum cleaner at low power, quickly turn the regulator up, and then it revs up like a jet engine... it also makes a nice hissing sound, just like my BMR icon_wink.gif.

My Miele does something similar... but the GTD sound is completely different icon_cool.gif. When it revs up under load, it sounds somewhat like an old Giuglia Super inside. It might be a bit too specific for some people. And it uses fuel because I find myself unnecessarily revving the engine just to hear it icon_redface.gif.

If you drive through an underground parking garage with the window open, you unfortunately hear the truth coming from outside -> but it's more likely to be a Miele. icon_confused.gif

Hutfahrer wrote:
And now, please describe to me how the GTD sounds with this exhaust modification! Is the goal to make it sound like a gasoline engine, or is the attempt (e.g., using resonators) to eliminate the typical diesel noises?

"Typical diesel noises? In the G VI, they are very subdued. The versions I've driven so far were practically indistinguishable from gasoline engines compared to my old ASZ-PD. Even without a sound generator, I would blindly guess it's a slightly rougher, direct-injection gasoline engine if it weren't for the noticeable rattling during regeneration (especially when accelerating gently)."

It's hard to describe. During a test drive with one of the very first DSG-GTDs from May 2009, I initially got the impression that it sounded somewhat like a gasoline V8 rumbling. My manual transmission car, on the other hand, makes a quiet, almost subdued sound, like an old Alfa Romeo with dual overhead camshafts. However, this only happens at higher RPMs when accelerating with at least half throttle. And it's only noticeable during acceleration, not during constant speed driving. That's why I don't find it annoying at all. In my daily driving, I mostly accelerate gently and at low RPMs, so you can't hear it anyway. For example, it was never audible during the break-in period.

Currently, for the GTI, the solution is being implemented in a similar way – starting from week 45 of 2009. The previous intake manifold version was primarily characterized by the fact that many drivers found it annoying and wanted to have it removed. The intake manifold design likely has the disadvantage of constantly producing a roaring sound, not just during acceleration.

Hmm,

Firstly, I still need to cool my cheek with ice icon_redface.gif, and I probably won't be getting into a car for a while. Secondly, I don't know if a sound file recorded on a mobile phone will reveal anything useful. We are talking about body sounds that are radiated from the splash panel into the interior of the vehicle. Whether a mobile phone can record such frequencies?

I'll try it again when I can drive again.

I found something interesting, so if they all sound like that, then hats off – I don't think it's bad at all. If the sound is synchronized with the RPM, I think it sounds pretty good at high speeds. Well, it's just a CR. And the swiveling bi-xenon headlights definitely have their appeal.

That's a pretty accurate description. However, that's only the case from the inside. And yes, it revs freely up to approximately 4500 RPM without any limitations. It's a whole new world compared to the PD engine. But also, it has a shorter gear ratio than the 140 CR model.

I only find the initial flickering of xenon headlights embarrassing; it sometimes attracts questioning looks.

That would be too good to be true, but unfortunately, the linked video I posted is of a gasoline-powered GTI. I thought, "Wow, that thing goes fast..."
The GTD sound is actually normal and not intrusive, so I would just leave it as it is.
