In various 2.0 TDI engines with pump-injector technology, insufficient or no oil pressure is being measured.
The error affects
all pump-injector engines with a balance shaft module.
Cause: The oil pump is driven by a hexagonal (6-sided) shaft on an auxiliary shaft. The hexagonal shape becomes rounded due to material wear, resulting in insufficient or no clamping force. This is due to poor material quality and/or an unfavorable fit.
Translation:
"The engine can be irreparably damaged before the oil pressure warning light illuminates on the instrument cluster, as lubrication will no longer occur. This will result in a complete engine failure in a very short time."
Remedy/Prevention: Replace the hexagon; if the balancing shaft is damaged, also replace the balancing shaft module.
Note: Since the wear condition cannot be determined without disassembling the oil pan, and this can be relatively time-consuming depending on the vehicle type, I generally advise against purchasing a vehicle that has been fitted with such a component.
