Hello everyone,
I have a ??? (not BMR, Mod) (2.0 TDI 140PS) from my brother-in-law (Sharan) that has an oil pressure light illuminating above 2000 RPM.
To narrow down the source of the problem, I bought a dial gauge and installed it (it was really difficult to get to).
According to the workshop manual (WHB), when testing with a warm engine, you should see approximately 2 bar at around 2000 RPM.
I measured it while it was cold, and it didn't show any pressure at all.
What only irritated me was:
-It didn't show any error codes when idling (which is normal?).
- When I removed the sensor, no oil came out. I was expecting some to come out. (Is that normal?)
The question now is how we can narrow down the possibilities further? I can almost rule out an oil leak in the oil pump strainer, as the car has only ever had oil changes every 15,000 kilometers using Meguin 5w40. The mileage is currently 120,000 km, and the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) has never activated (I triggered it once for testing).
(To put it another way, the car has almost exclusively experienced perfect conditions so far: properly warmed up, trips mostly longer than 20 km, and a brisk driving style, but rarely with full acceleration.)
I didn't really want to order the oil pump just to have to replace something else afterwards, so that's why I'm asking what else it could be.
Thank you in advance!

I agree completely.
Depending on the year of manufacture, you should either look at the hexagonal side that drives the module, or if it's the newer version, look at the spur gear.
It's a known issue. For the older version with chain drive and the hexagonal problem, there is even a Technical Product Information (TPI) or service bulletin for converting to the newer spur gear variant.
Unfortunately, the new version is still just as vulnerable.

Sorry, I'll have to check again (I don't have the documents with me right now).
It's definitely a 140 horsepower model from the year 2006.
Is there a list available anywhere of the vehicle identification numbers (VINs) affected by this recall? The dealer didn't provide any information.

If there was no specific information to the contrary, then the front wheel drive should already be installed.
Anyway, you're going to have to remove the oil pan at some point.
In the case of the Sharan, unlike the Passat or A4, the transverse engine layout should make it less of a problem.
Then you can examine the condition of the pinion gear.

Thank you very much!
I'm trying to get in touch with the dealer first, just in case he's affected by this and I end up taking off the oil pan for nothing.
I will get back to you as soon as I have any further news.

If you happen to remove the bathtub, it would be great if you could take some pictures.
I'm hesitant about the immense effort required for the A4. The axle needs to be lowered using special tools, but I also suspect that with my car's mileage, a new pinion gear will likely need replacing soon as well.
When it comes to the Sharan, you should approach it carefully.

Okay, I will document everything.
According to Volkswagen, the Sharan is also not affected by the RRA (Recall Action). Therefore, the bathtub (likely referring to a car part) will be removed tonight.

The hexagonal item is available for purchase individually.
Unfortunately, I fear that this will only provide a short-term solution.
Because the hexagonal structure can be damaged if there are game pieces present.
And your hexagon doesn't just look bad, it looks really terrible.
Therefore, the new hexagon will soon be a thing of the past.
Since the underbody panel on the Touran is relatively easy to remove, I would be willing to take that risk.
If the new hexagon shape fails again, you can still purchase a new balancer module.
p.s. I suppose I'll have to take a closer look at my balance wave module after all .

| If the oil pump is affected, it is available individually for approximately 175 EUR.
That kind of junk for that much money is outrageous. I would definitely complain to Volkswagen about it.

Okay, thanks! I'll try it out tomorrow.
A new balancing wave module costs a fortune.
My problem is that I, being the idiot that I am, didn't remember which side of the pump the wave was installed on (whether it was on the oil pump side or the other side).
I need to try the old wave again tomorrow. If it's just a problem with the oil pump side, then I'll install a new pump and that should fix it.
Complaining to VW won't help, because after the warranty period, the Sharan was no longer at the dealership, but only with me... The standard excuse is that it wasn't taken to an authorized workshop... (Of course, that wouldn't have happened ).

The wave should not be round anywhere. Your wave looks very, very bad.
It shouldn't matter how you install them.
Here's what it looks like now:
P.S. The waves are rotating on the common-mode side.
Unfortunately, the new pump didn't resolve the issue.
The entire module costs over €1000.
In the large auction house, there are sellers who claim to repair the module, but whether this is actually true is questionable.
Another option would be to simply weld the hexagonal shape onto the balancer side.
Then absolutely nothing will spin anymore.

It is clear that the wave should not be round anywhere .
I was just trying to figure out where that round part was installed. (Specifically, on the side with the balancing wave).
That idea about welding it on sounds interesting, but it's not entirely without risk...
I need to take a closer look at this again tomorrow when I have more time.
Thank you very much for your help in advance!

Regarding the welding: What do you have to lose if the module is already broken?
Unfortunately, the new module is not available as a replacement part.
A completely different approach would be to install an oil pump, for example, from a Volkswagen Golf.
They don't have a balancing wave module, and therefore they don't experience that problem either.
However, one would then have to accept a loss of comfort.
